Progressive policies have not benefited anyone but politicians
From the Merriam-Webster dictionary, progressive means: “a: of, relating to or characterized by progress; b: making use of or interested in new ideas, findings or opportunities; or c: of, relating to or constituting an educational theory marked by emphasis on the individual child, informality of classroom procedure and encouragement of self-expression.”
Gene Shelton, in his Jan. 10 Letter to the Editor, describes himself as a Progressive. When defined as a noun, progressive means: one believing in moderate political change and especially social improvement by governmental action.
This may be the definition that Mr. Shelton is thinking of, but, in the words of Inigo Montoya in “The Princess Bride,” “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”
Mr. Shelton has ascribed meanings and attributes to progressives that are nonsensical and antithetical.
The progressive movement of the early 20th century was hijacked by Marxists, when they infiltrated the Democrat Party. The progressive/socialist/liberal/Democrat party to which Mr. Shelton is loyal has become the antithesis of definitions a, b and c. There has not been a single progressive policy in the last 100 years that has benefited anyone, except the politicians and special interests stuffing your tax dollars in their pockets.
And if we fall back to progressive as a noun, “believing in moderate political change and especially social improvement by governmental action” progressivism is unconstitutional. Social improvement is not a constitutional function of the federal government. And there is nothing moderate about the current socialist agenda of the Democrat Party.
Mr. Shelton is not a traitor, by definition. But if you consider the Constitution as defining the U.S. federal government, he and other Democrats are guilty of sedition.
