While traveling – we never stated where we were from. For some reason, people always knew and always let us know. It never bothered us – we just always smiled and replied, “Thank You.”
One particular occasion was in Tangier, Morocco when upon arriving at the hotel, there wasn’t anyone in the lobby to accept our tour bus. After a bit, a person came out to acknowledge us and said it would be at least thirty minutes because the employees were all watching “Dallas.” The episode was “Who Shot J.R.?” My husband and I laughed because we never watched even one segment. They were mystified to think we were Americans and didn’t watch “Dallas.”
After the program was over, the hotel employees returned to their stations and proceeded to check us in which included absconding our passports and holding them until we left – two days later. All we got – was a good laugh.
