THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE, SO WHAT IS THE BEEF

Why?  Do we,  as citizens of the United States, have to continuously, every day, listen to all of these people complaining about our liberties in this country, such as reciting the Pledge Allegiance to the Flag in any forum because of two words, “UNDER GOD.”  Right now, people or children in any forum can opt out of saying this pledge.  So what is the beef?  The beef is they will continue to beef irregardless.  After this, it will be something else, whereby, there will be no end.  This country was founded on Christian principles which were established many years before these naysayers were even born.  My suggestions are to set up one station on television and one area of the public square where all of these people can go to do their bidding.  In this fashion, if we want to see who does not agree with the Christian theology, we can turn them on or off.  Why should they have the freedom to “dog” us; but, we do not have the freedom to “dog” them?  If we continue to allow these people to degrade our freedom, where will it stop?  The best thing is to nip it in the bud now!  This country should have a law passed where each day the school day should begin with the Pledge.  See all comments below revisions.

Since you asked, here’s the beef:

Enough reasons here for anyone, liberal or conservative, religious or atheist to have the Pledge of Allegiance removed from public schools:

    1. Meaning lost in endless repetition, no explanation given, no
    history provided.

Children were taught to memorize, salute, and recite the pledge as a patriotic exercise in schools to mark the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America in 1892. Francis Bellamy wrote the original Pledge. In 1942. Congress made the Pledge a part of its code for the use of the flag. In 1954, Congress, added, “UNDER GOD.”

    2. Comprises an ideological viewpoint that is forced on little
kids by authorities to whom they are dependent.

Yes, that is true; but, it is no different than your viewpoint of being against it. You are either for the Pledge or against it – your are against it.

    3. The two above, taken together, is the definition of brainwashing.

From your viewpoint; but, not from mine. You have also been brainwashed by someone to view the Pledge as being brainwashed.

    4. The absurdity of having to repeat a pledge daily that apparently is only good for 24 hours.

Circumstances – dictate – daily; yours, never.

    5. The conforming routine of it, which makes you feel like a brain-dead robot sheep as opposed to a citizen of a free country who enjoys individual liberty.

First sentence is your viewpoint. Second sentence agree – free country – we agree to disagree.

    6. Subordinates the people to the government, which we are told on good authority was created by us, with allegiance to us, not us to it.

Whoever the people were who voted and caused the present situation. The people who voted made this mistake in my eyes in the last two elections. We are now paying for it by the shape of the country.

    7. Exalts nationalism over federalism contrary to the basic principles of our Republic. Subsuming states and individual rights to central government is a necessary pre-requisite for a centralized, socialist government to gain traction. This was an explicit goal of Francis Bellamy, the socialist author of the PofA.

The people who voted for this regime are responsible because we have become a lazy country. Now the states must fight for their rights in return. The Pledge has only one purpose and that is to bring people together.

    8. Encourages jingoism. Antagonistic tribalism. No other countries have their citizens swear a loyalty oath to their government (except Mexico and the Philippines, mimicking the U.S).

It is only because you allow yourself to think in those terms.

    9. Concocted by a company that sold flags as part of a plan to compel schools to buy more flags while instilling socialist-style nationalism in American children.

You don’t have to have a flag to feel patriotic. Socialism is being preached in our schools and colleges by liberal professors by an imbalance of conservative professors. The people have to become more involved in the schools and change this lazy thinking.

    10. Unsavory connection with Nazis. The Pledge originally featured the Nazi-style salute. In fact, Hitler got it from the Italian fascists who much admired, that’s right, kids in America doing it while saying the Pledge. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellamy_salute (Man, if that doesn’t give you chills)

The Bellamy salute that you refer is the salute described by Bellamy. During the period when it was used with the Pledge, it was sometimes know as the “flag salute.” During the 1920’s and 1930’s, Italian fascists and Nazis adopted a salute which had the same form, resulting in controversy over the use of the Bellamy salute in the U.S. It was officially replaced by the hand-to-heart salute when Congress amended the Flag Code on December 22, 1942. So you see, they liked our salute so much they copied us – we did not copy them. That is what is so good about America – other countries always want to copy us all of the time.

    11. Is patriotic lip-service in place of, even at the expense of, actual civic engagement and action. (Symbolic patriotism)

You have the right not to participate in the Pledge at any function at the Junction.

    12. Is uncritical patriotism at the expense of maintaining oversight over government. (Blind patriotism)

Your belief only! Some believe otherwise. Your right and my right – right?

    13. Considered by many Christians idolatry, taking the name of God in vain, swearing oaths, serving two masters.

Your belief, only. Can you separate love of country and love of God?

    14. Divides the nation (and the classroom) along religious lines. Only those represented by the Judeo-Christian “God” need apply as patriots (Ironic that “under God”, comes right before “indivisible.”)

Freedom of expression is part of our constitution. Second sentence – ever heard of diversity – a melting pot country?

    15. Is hypocritical on the part of adults, bullying little kids into doing something that adults themselves don’t do. (You say the Pledge every day, do you, and on a government mandated schedule?)

No, it is not. There is a time and place for everything.

    16. And last, but not least, pledging allegiance to a flag is just stupid.

    Your thought and not mine.

I am so glad you answered my call for what is your beef about reciting the Pledge. That is what makes America so great is that we can share our views regardless of either of our views and it only makes me so proud when not everyone agrees. Because then, people are thinking! You just go ahead and don’t you dare say the Pledge and I will continue to say the Pledge. And, if I am somewhere and I see a guy or gal not saying the Pledge, I will think to myself – that must be the guy or gal who doesn’t believe in saying the Pledge. And, in the end, you will continue beefing about the flag and I will continue saying the Pledge. Only in America:

I Pledge Allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.

God Bless you and God Bless America.
