After defeating Minnesota Governor Tim Walz at the ballot box last November, Republicans have dealt the former vice presidential candidate another blow.

Minnesota State House Republicans scored a major victory Thursday morning following an announcement that GOP lawmakers will take control of the state’s lower chamber for the next two years. GOP control of the state House is the product of a power sharing agreement negotiated between both parties, resulting in the election of Republican Minnesota State Rep. Lisa Demuth as House speaker and the creation of an oversight committee to probe the Walz administration.

The power sharing agreement comes after state house Democrats boycotted the first three weeks of the state’s legislative session in an attempt to deny their Republican colleagues a quorum to take control and conduct legislative business. Minnesota House Republicans currently hold a 67-66 majority with one vacancy in a seat previously held by a Democratic lawmaker, which will be filled after a special election in March.

GOP control of the state House promises to be a check on Walz’s power to pass left-wing policy priorities through the state legislature.

“During the time that we have the one-seat majority there will be Republican chairs in every committee with a one vote advantage,” Demuth said at a press conference Thursday.

In the event Democrats win the special election to fill the vacant seat, Demuth will still retain control of the speakership. Minnesota Republicans are characterizing the GOP’s grip on the House speakership as a major win because Republican lawmakers will still have leverage in this year’s budget negotiations with the Walz administration.

Finally, Democrats and Republicans have reached a power sharing agreement.

If state House margins return to a 67-67 tie, Republicans and Democrats will share power on committees with GOP lawmakers retaining control of the newly-created Fraud and Agency Oversight Committee.

“There is record fraud in the state of Minnesota proven with three new cases even just last week,” Demuth said during the press conference.

A nonprofit in Minnesota notably stole more than $250 million from a COVID-19 federal food aid program in 2022 while Walz was governor. A state audit faulted his administration for failing to prevent the theft of hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars.

“Voters have made it clear they want Minnesota House Republicans to be a strong check on Tim Walz and his extreme liberal agenda,” Republican State Leadership Committee President Edith Jorge-Tuñón said following the power sharing agreement announcement. “They are tired of the high taxes and rising violent crime they’ve experienced under Democrat control. Today’s agreement is a decisive victory for Minnesotans, ensuring they get the representation they deserve.”

GOP control of the state House is the first time Republicans will hold power in the lower chamber since losing the House majority in 2018.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Wednesday that pricey subscriptions to the leftist media outlet Politico by the federal government are being canceled.

“Upon coming out here to the briefing room, I was made aware of the funding from USAID to media outlets, including Politico, who I know has a seat in this room,” Leavitt began.

“I can confirm that the more than $8 million taxpayer dollars that have gone to essentially subsidizing subscriptions to Politico on the American taxpayer’s dime will no longer be happening,” she continued. “The DOGE team is working on canceling those payments now.”

The Dispatch reported that multiple federal agencies and departments paid Politico a total of $8.2 million for subscriptions from fiscal year 2016 to fiscal year 2025. However, the outlet said that USAID had “only” two subscriptions to E&E, an energy and environment publication produced by Politico LLC, totaling $44,000 over a two-year period.

Leavitt went on to note, “Again, this is a whole-of-government effort to ensure that we are going line by line when it comes to the federal government’s books, and this president and his team are making decisions across the board on, do these receipts serve the interest of the American people? Is this a good use of the American taxpayers’ money?”

“If it is not, that funding will no longer be sent abroad and taxpayers will see significant savings because of that effort,” she said.

Sam Lyman, a former speechwriter for then-Senator Orrin Hatch, posted on social media platform X, “When I worked in the Senate, we all had Politico Pro by default. I never signed up for it. So I can only assume it was a blanket deal Politico had worked out w/the federal gov. I never used it—not even once. Got 0 value out of it.

Lyman added it was “Gobsmacking to hear a subscription = $10k.”

He was commenting on an earlier post by Chris Tomlinson, a reporter with the National Pulse, who wrote that a Politico Pro subscription costs about $10,000 per year. Tomlinson speculated, given the annual fee, that probably 90 percent of the subscriptions are paid for by federal government agencies.

“It seems to me the entire program is a stealthy way of acquiring massive government subsidies,” he wrote.

Sean Davis, CEO and co-founder of the conservative outlet The Federalist, pointed out that Politico was at the forefront of censoring the Hunter Biden laptop story in 2020 and published the leak information in the 2022 Dobbs decision “that led to the near-assassination of multiple Supreme Court justices.”

So great news from Leavitt that the American taxpayer will no longer be spending millions to subsidize leftist “journalism.”

David Hogg, a 24-year-old gun control activist, is now a Democratic National Committee (DNC) Vice Chair. He’s the first Gen Z leader in this role. And he has the digital footprint to prove it.

    “Are you ready to go on the offense? We have to win back our young people,” Hogg said at the DNC’s Winter Meeting. “I’m the only candidate in this race for any of these positions that is under 30. We had a 20-point shift to the right of our young people. We must show our young people we give a damn about them, that we support them, and we invest in them.”

    But as he steps into his new role, he might find himself on defense.

    “I have raised over $11 million in the past year to support the future of our party because I don’t just tweet,” Hogg said. “I don’t just talk the talk. I also walk the walk, and I knock the knock on doors around this country.”

    Now, old posts are resurfacing. Conservatives are blasting his past statements and policy ideas.

    In 2022, he pushed for extreme left-wing policies. “How radical you ask? I don’t think anybody should have over $1 billion in assets there should be a 100% tax after your first billion,” he posted. He also called for universal healthcare, free college, and legalizing all drugs.

    That same year, he made his stance on children clear. “Like me? I’m never planning on having kids. I would much rather own a Porsche and have a Portuguese water dog and golden doodle,” he posted. “Long term it’s cheaper, better for the environment and will never tell you that it hates you or ask you to pay for college.”

    Hogg even admitted his involvement in politics could be damaging. “Any politician doing anything with me is in effect committing political suicide,” he said in 2022.

    Now, conservatives on X are calling out the irony. They say his past views make him a strange pick for DNC leadership.

    Many point to his progressive stance on masculinity as a problem. Young male voters, they argue, aren’t on board.

    In 2021, he took aim at law enforcement. “Abolish ICE,” he posted. “Defund the police not USPS.”

    His critics are also bringing up a 2022 post about representation. “We have enough straight white men in power,” Hogg wrote. “It’d be nice to see some people who actually look like our country and not privilege.”

    Conservatives aren’t holding back. Some are mocking his nomination, claiming he’ll “help Republicans win for years to come.”

    Hogg first made national headlines in 2018. He co-founded March for Our Lives, a student-led gun control movement started after the Parkland school shooting.

    Since then, he’s been a loud voice for young Democrats. After graduating from Harvard in 2023, he co-founded Leaders We Deserve, a group backing young progressive candidates.

    Mr. Hogg hasn’t lived in the capitalist world for very long. He is still wet behind the ears from his Harvard years of progressive training.

    For starters, he needs to move to a country whose ideas he claims. The election spoke for the people in the U.S. and that is why the left “gave him the job” of bringing them out of the swamp because the Democrat sheep are lost, the word salads don’t work, they have spent more money than we have, the debt is choking on word salads, and DODGE is exposing what they have been doing to the country.

    As the saying goes, a wise man lives by the “golden rule.”

    A U.S. citizen’s reaction:

    What is the difference between – the One World Order globalist plan who have been rearranging the chairs on the world stage and the Gaza strip. The Globalists have been causing grief for a lot of countries by overloading the world and the U.S. by sending the poor countries’ folks to the richer countries; but, now that we have to make adjustments in Gaza – the world doesn’t like these infiltrated countries to have a say. In fact, when the Gaza people were evacuated from Palestine – none of the countries surrounding Gaza would accept any of the Palestine people even for temporary purposes of the war between Israel/Palestine. Why didn’t they want any of the Gaza folks? We know who started this war between Gaza/Israel.

    If change is in order why is it okay for them to impact the rest of world – but not okay for Palestine to be impacted. It is important that to know that no country’s politicians own any land in the world even their own. They are just elected to do their job. Now it is Palestine’s time to be impacted by the moving of the musical chairs. We have to be honest and realize that Palestine has been one of the terrorist organizations for that part of the world and that must be changed. All of those countries have their own military; but, have been using using Palestine as their proxy army.

    That has to change.

    It is time to finalize the musical chairs in Palestine and each country moving on with running their part of the world.

    (Reuters) -President Donald Trump said the United States would take over the Gaza Strip after Palestinians are resettled elsewhere.
