DRIPPING SPRINGS, Texas — Sarah Palin told a crowd of over 1,000 “patriots” gathered at the southern border in Texas Thursday that they would “take our country back” as the state’s National Guard has seized control of the country line from federal agents.

“The eyes of the world are on Texas right now,” Palin, 59, said to a cheering crowd at the “Take our Border Back” rally in Dripping Springs.

“Our federal gov is sanctioning to allow this invasion [across our border],” the former Alaskan governor said. “We’re going to take our country back.”

The Republican took to the stage at the massive rally packed with cars, buses and trucks decked in both American and Trump flags as well as dozens of merchants selling T-shirts, hats and more emblazoned with slogans like: “I stand with Texas, take our border back”, “F–k Biden” and a slew of pro-Donald Trump messages.

The “Take Our Border Back” convoy has invited “law-abiding, freedom-loving Americans” to join them in border towns to pray, hear speakers and add more “patriots” to the cause before three rallies are held in three cities on Saturday.Continue watchingThis Day in Historyafter the ad

The caravan — which has dubbed themselves “God’s Army” — has traveled through about nine states over four days and includes people from various parts of the country.

The group rolled into Central Texas on Wednesday and will remain there until Friday for the final leg of the trip, which will culminate with a rally in Quemado, about 20 miles from Eagle Pass, on Saturday.

Rally organizer Robert Agee opened Thursday’s pre-rally with reminders to assemble “peacefully” and said the protesters would not engage with “individuals who may be coming across that border” after earlier telling participants to leave their firearms and tactical gear at home on X.

“This is a nation founded on immigrants. But it’s the bad actors coming across wanting to do harm, and that’s why the border needs to be fixed,” Agee told the crowd. “These [federal] officials we’ve hired to do the job are not doing what we pay them to.”

Other speakers at the event included singer-songwriter Ted Nugent, who called himself “a radical” and “an extremist,” before playing the national anthem as well as local politicians.

“I dare to experiment with self-government,” the musician said. “The goons have kicked our ass with fake ballots and deceptive tactics.”

Texas Rep. Carrie Isaac led the crowd in a “Build the wall” chant — in a throwback to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

The caravan of protesters has come to the Lone Star State as tensions between Texas state officials and the federal government increase over control of the 37-acre Shelby Park in Eagle Pass, a major border crossing area.

The state has installed razor wire to stop migrants from entering the country. Despite the Supreme Court ruling in their favor, federal agents are still being largely denied entry into Shelby Park, where the Texas National Guard has seized control of the border.466
