‘Stingy’ husband makes wife promise to bury him with his money, what she did next will surprise you

We can all agree that being stingy is not a character trait that should be desired. Stingy people even tend to get the stink eye from time to time!

This couple’s story, which was reported by littlethings magazine, is about this ugly character trait and how she overcame it through her smarts. The magazine tells the story of a couple who had been married for a very long time. The husband had worked his whole life to build up his small fortune and was quite the ‘tight-fisted type’, unlike his wife.

But now, death finally did them part and the husband died.

A strange request for his burial
In his will, the husband asked to be buried with his money, which was a fairly large sum. Being the famously stingy person that he was, he saw no harm in it, since after all, he had worked hard his whole life to get that money.

Some time before he died, while in the hospital, he made his wife promise to bury him with his riches:

Now listen to me, when I die I want you to take all my money and put it in the coffin with me. Because I want to take all my money to the afterlife.

Finding a loop hole in her husbands’ last wish
On the day of the funeral, the widow placed a shoebox in the coffin, and her husband was therefore buried with it. It was then that her late husband’s best friend, astonished, asked her what was in the box.

She explains to him that it was her husband’s money. The best friend then pointed out to her that the box was far too small to contain all of that wealth. The widow then explained to him:

Well, it was a hassle to put all the money in the box, so I put it in my account and wrote him a check!
Through this scheme, the promise was kept, but the check would never be deposited in the bank and the money would therefore remain in the widow’s account. Smart!
