Trump Family Targeted With New Subpoenas As Democrats Continue Witchhunt

(FreedomBeacon.com)- Last Thursday, New York Attorney General Letitia James issued subpoenas to former President Donald Trump and his two children Donald Junior and Ivanka.

The AG is seeking the testimony of the three in connection to her ongoing civil investigation into the Trump Organization, specifically related to her investigation into the valuation of properties owned and controlled by the company.

James’ subpoenas come just two weeks after former President Trump filed a lawsuit to stop the attorney general’s ongoing witch hunt. In his suit, Trump argues that James is “guided solely by political animus and a desire to harass, intimidate, and retaliate against a private citizen” James views as a “political opponent.”

Trump’s not wrong.

When she first campaigned for Attorney General in 2018, Letitia James made “getting Trump” her primary campaign promise. She had no alleged crime in mind, rather, she promised to investigate Trump until she found criminal wrongdoing.

Despite this backward approach to “justice,” Letitia James won the election and proceeded to follow through on the promise she made to the anti-Trump Resistance to “get Trump.”

Letitia James is always motivated by her political ambition. It’s precisely why she opened investigations into then-Governor Andrew Cuomo. James had her sights set on running for Governor and what better way to hurt the incumbent than to open investigations into him.

James did announce that she was running for the Democrat nomination for New York governor, but a short time later pulled out, likely due to criticism that her investigations into Cuomo were motivated by her desire to run.

On Monday, Alan Futerfas, the attorney representing both Trump children, filed a motion to quash the subpoenas, arguing that the AG is trying to circumvent the grand jury process and “nullify” his clients’ “constitutional and statutory rights” by requesting they provide “non-immunized testimony” to the attorney general’s office.

In response, an irate Letitia James blasted the Trump family for their “numerous attempts to delay our investigation” and vowed that nothing would prevent her office from their witch hunt against Trump, adding “because no one is above the law.”

Isn’t targeting by an individual such as James a crime called “bullying?”

There is no one term for this collection of unjust laws. A criminal statute or regulation that targets a particular person is a “bill of attainder” forbidden by the constitution. Civil laws that unfairly target an individual might be OK, or might violate some other principle, depending on details. Some laws that unfairly target groups or businesses are based on animus, hence violate due process of law as well as equal protection of the laws. Possibly the most general designation is “violates substantive due process,” that rule that there must be a rational basis for any law.

A bill of attainder is prohibited by Article I, Section 9, Clause 3 of the Constitution because it deprives the person or persons singled out for punishment of the safeguards of a trial by jury.

Does this person know the law?
