KOMMONSENTSJANE – DEMOCRATS SPREAD DISINFORMATION ON CLIMATE CHANGE AND TORNADOES.

Democrats spread disinformation on climate change and tornadoes

President Joe Biden did not even wait for the number of dead to be counted before he falsely blamed climate change for the devastating tornadoes in Kentucky last week.

“The fact, is we know everything is more intense when the climate is warming,” Biden said last Sunday before ordering the Environmental Protection Agency to investigate. “And obviously it has some impact here.”

CNN’s Jake Tapper was equally ready to implicate climate change as the cause of the disaster. “Scientists warn that extreme weather events such as this one will only happen more frequently as the climate continues to warm,” Tapper told Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Deanne Criswell. “Is your agency equipped to handle this new normal?”

Criswell completely agreed. “This is going to be our new normal. And the effects that we’re seeing from climate change are the crisis of our generation.”

The climate is changing. That’s what climates do. The science is settled on that.

But are tornadoes getting worse or more frequent as the climate warms? What does the science say about that?

Turns out the science says Biden and Tapper are dead wrong. They are spreading disinformation about climate science. There is no link between global warming and increased tornadoes. In fact, over the last 20 years, there have been only four EF5 category tornadoes (the highest category) in the United States. By comparison, there were 36 such tornadoes in the U.S. between 1954 and 1974.

According to the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report, “Observational trends in tornadoes, hail, and lightning associated with severe convective storms are not robustly detected due to insufficient coverage of the long-term observations.” In other words, there is no evidence to support a connection between the warming climate and tornadoes.

But if the science doesn’t support a link between tornadoes and climate change, then why are Biden and Tapper so eager to push the narrative that they do?

One only has to watch MSNBC to find out. On the Biden administration’s favorite channel, anchor Andrea Mitchell asked Penn State climatologist Michael Mann what people living in tornado-prone areas should do to prevent future disasters.

“You need to pass Build Back Better,” Mann said, “because that bill has climate provisions that will address this problem at its core, which is the warming of the planet due to carbon pollution, fossil fuel burning.”

And there you have it. The only reason Biden, Tapper, and MSNBC are pushing the false narrative that climate change causes tornadoes is to help gin up public support for Biden’s signature political agenda at a moment when it appears unlikely to pass.

Spreading false information for political purposes is the textbook definition of disinformation. Biden, CNN, and MSNBC should all be ashamed.
