Subject: My Reaction To The Presidential Debate

A close friend in Dallas, who is also an avid Trump supporter, asked that I help her understand what happened at the debate this past Tuesday and help clarify her thinking. I wrote for her the piece below. My friend wrote back that this had helped her immensely and she has now shared it with 100 of her friends. She suggested that I forward it on to each of you. I hope you find it helpful. If you want to share it with other please feel free to do so.

I think you are WAY overreacting to the debate. You have to remember that for years and years we Republicans have been sending our candidates and office holders (Ford, Bush, Bush, McCain, Romney, etc.) with the singular exception of the “great orator” Ronald Reagan, to a gun fight with a pocket knife. And even if they had a gun they would not have used it. The democrats are mean, vicious, unscrupulous street fighters and we try to be “gentlemen” and play by the Marquess of Queensberry rules. On the other hand democrats have no rules. And at the end of the day they always cut us up very badly.

So finally we decided to not hire another politician but, rather, to elect a 71 year old, mid-town Manhattan, real estate developer who is highly successful, does not suffer fools and is tough as nails. And guess what, that guy does what we expect and runs our country like a business and does so 24/7/365 while constantly pounding the table saying to his cabinet and staff “Go, Go, Go, Go, Go, Go!” He accomplished more in 45 months than any other Republican president has accomplished in 8 years.

Then we put him on a debate AFTER we have allowed the democrats, the K street lobbyist, the never Trumpers, the intelligence community, the entire Swamp, the Deep State and the FBI to beat him up relentlessly for three and a half years. And at the debate we have two guys challenging him. First a fellow who is a do-nothing, lying, cheating, good for nothing politician who has been hanging around the Swamp for 47 years. And second a liberal member of the media acting like a moderator. Both of these fellows are allowed to beat up on him and we then have the audacity to expect him, in return, to be a gentleman. REALLY?

If I had been in his shoes my reactions would have been much worse. I actually think under the circumstances he remained much calmer than would have most tough executives and entrepreneurs that I know and deal with on a regular basis.

Please each of you think of ALL the men and women who built, protected, defended and supported this country from day one. They were great, strong willed individuals who fought like hell to be sure America was created and then stayed safe. The American Revolution, Concord, Valley Forge, Trenton, The War of 1812, The Alamo, The Charge up San Juan Hill, the “Doughboys” of WWI and the Marines and Army of WWII in Africa, Europe and the South Pacific. And then came the bitter cold of Korea and the stifling heat of Vietnam. In the ‘50s and ‘60s I knew many of those men that came home from WWII and Korea. They were gentlemen in their everyday lives but back when they were defending America they did “whatever it took” to save and protect this country and our way of life. They were at War. Trump is at War. There is no place or room for the timid, the weak or the undecided in a War – at least if you want to win there is no place for those folks. So don’t you dare turn into one!

Trump is fighting a war for you, me, our families and the nation. He cannot afford to lose. We cannot afford for him to lose. Remember, the democrats KNOW they are in a War and will fight accordingly. We better not forget that we are in a War and begin to whine because our top General is being too mean and aggressive and forceful when he fights for us. The other side is certainly putting no restraints on their guy or their Colonels and Lieutenants (have you watched Maxine, Nancy, Chuck or the MSM on TV lately?)!

WE CANNOT DISENGAGE, WHIMPER OR FLINCH BECAUSE WE DO NOT LIKE WHAT WAR LOOKS AND FEELS LIKE. WE HAD BETTER GET UP OFF OUR BUTTS, SUCK IT UP AND SUPPORT OUR GENERAL WITH EVER FIBER IN OUR BODY OR I PROMISE YOU THAT THE DEMOCRATS WILL WIN.

What did Lincoln say about Grant when his other Generals and Cabinet members complained that Grant drank too much and pushed and drove his troops too hard? Lincoln said “I can’t spare this man. He FIGHTS!” When the generals complained to FDR about Patton FDR said the exact same thing “He is our greatest fighting general and a sheer joy!” When Supreme Allied Commander General Eisenhower was asked why he did not remove Patton, Ike said “Patton is indispensable to the war effort – he is one of the guarantors of our victory!

”Trump is our Grant. Trump is our Patton. He may be aggressive, and rude and tough and at times un-gentlemanly BUT HE FIGHTS for all of us and for America. Who else can you name that will fight for us like Trump fights for us? I am serious, just name me just one Republican politician who will fight like Trump fights for us?

So here is what you need to do. No more turning off the TV. No more hunkering down and pulling the bed sheets over your head. No more wishing for the end of the campaign. The next 30 days will determine the winner. We need to get up off our collective butts, screw up some courage and help this man – our General, our President – help this country by winning re-election. Send emails, volunteer, knock on doors, raise money, phone bank – you name it we all need to do it.

LOSING THIS ELECTION IS NOT AN OPTION!

WM. EUGENE POWELL, TEXAS VICE CHAIRMAN
