Ocasio-Cortez’s Dumbest Comment Yet
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the future of the Democratic Party. We’ve all given them many chances to take that statement back. They refuse. She’s also the dumbest person with a verified Twitter account. That’s no small accomplishment.
Still, it takes something special for her to best some of the doozies she’s given us so far. In the past week, she succeeded. Prepare yourself, for you are about to experience the crowning achievement of the most idiotic person to ever be elected to Congress. It’s not pretty.
As per usual, Ocasio-Cortez chose Twitter as her platform of choice. Perhaps some politicians are just more adept with it than others. Let’s not leave anything to misrepresentation. We’ll give you the direct quote:
$21 TRILLION of Pentagon financial transactions “could not be traced, documented, or explained.” $21T in Pentagon accounting errors. Medicare for ALL costs ~$32T. That means 66% of Medicare for ALL could have been funded already by the Pentagon. And that’s before our premiums.
That might be hard to follow, so we’ll break it down. Cortez is referencing a Skidmore study. It found accounting errors over a roughly 20-year period. The total sum of all of those errors came to $21 trillion. Her reasoning is that if the Pentagon can misplace $21 trillion then we can find room in the budget for single-payer health care.
Making Sense of the Nonsensical
What she said and what is true are as far apart as usual. If it was the case that the Pentagon misplaced $21 trillion, she might have a little bit of an argument. Unfortunately for the crazy socialists of the world, math is not their strong suit. Here’s what the study actually says.
Over the course of 20 some odd years, the Pentagon did have a ton of accounting errors. The total of those errors did reach $21 trillion. That in no way means that the Pentagon misplaced any money at all. Instead, when money goes between departments, it is tracked. Sometimes there are rounding errors. Sometimes there are honest mistakes. Sometimes the same dollar can bounce between departments over a thousand times in a year.
Let’s put this in perspective. The combined budget for the U.S. military, from 1789 to 2018, is $18 trillion. That’s a lot less than Cortez seems to think has been misplaced. More to the point, the budget for the entire 20 years in the study was roughly $500 billion. It shows that if we slashed all military spending, it wouldn’t put the tiniest dent in this Medicare for all bill.
Here’s the final nail in the coffin. The study was for 20 years. Cortez’s estimate of $32 trillion for Medicare is a 10-year number. Even if she hadn’t been grossly wrong about everything (which she usually is), this Pentagon error still wouldn’t pay for a third of her Medicare bill.
There’s a reason that every single American who can add is against single-payer health care. The numbers don’t work. We cannot afford it. We could redirect the entire federal budget, and it still wouldn’t cover half of the expense. It is completely and totally, in all ways impossible.
Your Elected Representative
If this was a single mistake by Cortez, we might be able to let it slide. Who hasn’t put their foot in their mouth during a late-night tweet? The problem is that this was an average Tuesday for her. She’s honestly this stupid — all the time. What’s worse is that she was elected. In a landslide! This is exactly what the founding fathers had in mind when they created the Electoral College. The people of New York’s 14th district clearly aren’t intelligent enough to be trusted with a vote.
She’s here. She’s going to be sworn in as a member of our Congress in just a few weeks time. She will have the authority to pen laws. If that doesn’t disturb you then you are probably numb beyond reach.
This is the Democratic Party that we are now facing, and it’s going to be a rough two years. Since we can’t correct this problem with a vote any time soon, the only recourse left is to become an active participant in the governing process. You must contact your Representative and Senators and demand that they oppose every word of idiocy that comes from this woman’s mouth. Otherwise, we might be trying to fund a fantasy healthcare bill with money that doesn’t exist.
She does not love America – that is a guarantee. She is a user and a loser!
