When we were younger, my oldest sister and her husband farmed and they planted cotton every year. When it was time for the cotton to be picked, immigrant families were brought in and were housed on the farm during that time. On a number of occasions, we would be visiting my sister during that time and found out how hot and hard the work was by actually going into the fields and helping pick the cotton.
It is not an easy job; but, it makes you appreciate what immigrant workers have to endure.
When Ace Cannon produced the song, “Those Cotton Fields,” it brought back memories of those days at my sister’s house and how I can appreciate the hard work of immigrants.
I can see why they want to come to the U.S. for a better job and pay; but, it must be LEGALLY.
Hopefully, their new President will increase their pay. We visit Mexico quite often and it is so sad the pay these people receive – if what they tell us they receive for eights hours. I am even ashamed to say. It is a pittance.
It is going to be interesting to see how the new President will help the people.
