Three-Quarters of Young Americans Unfit for Military Service
If the United States got into a major war and needed young men and women in the military, the nation could be facing a crisis situation of not being able to find enough of them to serve.
In past major wars, the last being Vietnam, the military imposed a draft to pull young men into the military. If that became necessary today, it would most likely include young women as well, but
according to a recent report, even then the military would have an extremely difficult time finding enough young people to serve.
Currently, the military relies on volunteers, young and men and women who want to serve and help protect their country, but the number of volunteers that meet military requirements is steadily
According to new information reported by the Pentagon:
“71 percent of young Americans between 17 and 24 are ineligible to serve in the military—that is 24 million of the 34 million people of that age group.”
“The military depends on a constant flow of volunteers each year; as the number of eligible Americans declines, it is increasingly difficult to meet military needs.”
“A manpower shortage in the United States Armed Forces directly compromises national security.”
The shortage is already manifesting itself. The Army relies on a constant turn over of volunteers and says it needs about 80,000 new recruits in 2018, but fear they may not be able to attract that many
who actually qualify for service. The Army has put forth recruiting bonuses and incentives, but even still, reaching 80,000 acceptable recruits is an uncertainty.
Major General Mark Brilakis, former commander of the US Marine Corps Recruiting Command stated:
“There are 30 some million 17- to 24 year-olds out there, but by the time you get all the way down to those that are qualified, you’re down to less than a million young Americans. [A manpower shortage
in the United States military directly compromises national security. America needs a strong military to defend its national interests, and that military depends on qualified volunteers. As the most recent
U.S. National Security Strategy makes clear, the] “United States faces an extraordinarily dangerous world, filled with a wide range of threats that have intensified in recent years.”
Part of the reason is due to the United States being a nation that has lost its way socially. Another reason is due to the ruination of the public education system and another reason can be blamed for
our opulent lifestyle.
Of the 71% of young Americans between the ages of 17-24 who are ineligible to serve in the military, 10% are excluded because of a criminal record; 25% are excluded because of a lack of education;
27% are excluded due to poor physical fitness and 32% are excluded for various health problems.
All of these issues are signs of a decaying, uneducated and unhealthy America. It shows a need for our young people put their phones, tablets and video games down and get more active.
If they were as active as young people were just a few short decades ago, it could cut the percentage of physically unfit by half or 3.24 million that would be fit for military service. Being more active when young can also reduce the number of health problems and even if being more active only reduced the number of young people with health problems y just 10%, that would result in an additional 768,000
that would be fit for military service.
As for the criminal record and lack of education, those could be changed if parents would just take a more active role in the lives of their kids and spend more time with them. These issues are also the
result of our current society, and the only way to change this is to make a lot of conservative changes to America and return to the America that existed 50 years ago.
Unless changes are made, America will collapse from within, not only from the social degradation we see today, but also because we will no longer be able to defend ourselves.
That was the plan beginning with Bush I and Obama and they made this problem worse by firing the generals who did not agree with him. Need to bring back all of these generals on an emergency basis.
It is my notion that when people leave high school – they should have to serve in the military for two years like they do in Israel and then decide if they want to go to college or study for a trade. They can learn a trade in the military. What we are doing now is not working because most children are not being raised with values or morals.
