Dr. Carson, HUD, Putting an End to Obama’s Illegal Section 8 Scheme
August 8, 2017 11:24AM
The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), at the direction of Secretary Ben Carson, is reportedly squashing an illegal Section 8 housing scheme implemented by the Obama Administration.
Under the program, grants were awarded to help landlords with rental assistance to those offering low-income housing. The mechanism of using a grant system was labeled “unreasonable and in disregard of applicable statutory guidance” by the Government Accountability Office in 2012, and later rebuked by the Supreme Court.
Instead, HUD will revert to a previously utilized competitive bidding process. The move is being hailed by supporters for improving efficiency and saving taxpayer money.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development is poised to reverse the Obama administration’s policy and return to a competitive bidding process to award Section 8 housing, according to a well-placed source in the department.
The move would overturn the Obama-era methodology of using a grant-style process that was rebuked by administrators and ultimately the U.S. Supreme Court.
Supporters of the competitive bidding procurement process say the net result will increase efficiency in the program and save taxpayer money. And Republican lawmakers that have been critical of HUD’s actions in the past are applauding the change in course as well.
The move will no doubt launch liberals into an apoplectic fit of rage, as Carson will be cast as a racist for making Section 8 housing an open competition.
The good doctor was pilloried by leftists when he said poverty could largely be considered a “state of mind” and that beneficiaries of public housing should not be provided too “comfortable (a) setting.”
Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) has long railed against the illegal HUD grant process.
“When dealing with performance-based Section 8 contract administrators, it’s clear that full and open competition is the way to get the best value for the taxpayer,” Balart said. “As Chairman of the Housing Appropriations Subcommittee, I have repeatedly insisted both publicly and privately that HUD follow Congressional intent, the GAO, and the Supreme Court.”
We applaud Carson for ending the illegal Section 8 housing scheme?
Good for Dr. Carson for initiating a fair system and I especially liked his comment – that poverty could largely be considered a “state of mind.”
Dr. Carson proceeds with awesome intelligence, integrity, and financial insight, that is surely exposing the dirty “muslim” wheeler dealer, and his thugs. Yes, I believe you are going to lift up the poor, Dr.Carson, by your encouraging, truthful, and awesome actions as head of the Department of Housing and urban renewal. By your example of rising to success out of housing, we are being awakened to take the risks one must take to overcome poverty. God surely blessed us and the Trump administration. Your book, TAKE THE RISK, is helping me to improve my life in every facet, and most definitely has reassured me that having a personal relationship with God is the best thing that can happen to anyone, rich or poor.
