A bare 2 months 17 days into his presidency, last night (April 6, 2017), Donald Trump ordered Pentagon to fire 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at a Syrian air base, in retaliation against what Trump calls Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad’s “horrible chemical weapons attack on innocent civilians” — never mind that:
- No official investigation was undertaken to determine that Assad indeed had made the chemical attack.
- Trump did not get the consent of Congress although a missile attack on a sovereign government is an act of war.
Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said although Russia was informed about forthcoming US strikes against Syria over existing communication channels, “nobody called [Russian President Vladimir] Putin.”
