THE STATUE OF LIBERTY
The Statue of Liberty stands on Liberty Island in the New York Harbor. It’s proper name is, “Liberty Enlightening the World.” This statue is the largest ever made as a symbol of friendship and of the liberty that citizens enjoy under a free form of government. The French people donated about $250,000 for the construction of the statue, and the people of the United States gave about $280,000 for the pedestal. The statue represents a proud women, dressed in a loose robe that falls in graceful folds to the top of the pedestal on which the statue stands. The right arm holds a great torch raised high in the air. The left arm grasps a tablet bearing the date of the Declaration of Independence. A crown with huge spikes, like sun rays, rests on the head. At the feet is a broken shackle, which people seldom notice, symbolizing the overthrow of tyranny.
Below is the photograph of the President when he was sworn into office to uphold the Constitution of the United States with his hand on two (2) Bibles, one that belonged to Dr. Martin L. King and the second belonging to President Abraham Lincoln. How do you feel at the present time – is he upholding the Constitution? Is Lady Liberty being raped and the Constitution getting the cold shoulder?
