A wedding was recently held and not all of the invited guests were truly consumed with joy.  The marriage was between the Hamas and Islamic Jihad – the Palestinians two most radical groups.  This is, of course, bad news for moderate Palestinians who believe in the two-state solution and peace with Israel.  It is also bad news for secular Palestinians, especially those living in the West Bank.  Hamas and Islamic Jihad are the two dominant groups in the Gaza Strip which is home to some 1.5 million Palestinians.

 Although most Palestinians do not understand the real differences between the two Islamist groups, Islamic Jihad has always been viewed as being more extremist than Hamas.  Hamas is an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood.  Both groups seek the elimination of Israel and do not recognize the Oslo Accords that were signed.

The Oslo Accords are a set of agreements between the government of Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) signed in Oslo in 1993.  It was a peace process whereby the PLO recognizes the State of Israel and the recognition by Israel of the PLO in the representatives of the Palestine people and as a partner in negotiations.

Hamas‘ goal is to seize control over the Palestinian Authority and replace Israel with an Islamic empire.  Hamas has already made it clear that the deal with Abbas does not mean that it would change its ideology or renounce terrorism.  

Now our Secretary of State John Kerry responds that,  “he will try to work with the new family even though Hamas is on the U.S. terror list.”  Israel on the other hand refuses to join the circus and I certainly don’t blame them.  

Why can’t Saudi Arabia give as a wedding present some of their vast spaces of sand dunes to these two terrorist groups, Hamas and Islamic Jihad, and let them form their own state.

Now that the two groups have met with Pope Francis, the world is looking to the rest of the moderate Muslims to back Abbas and stand up to these murderers of all people, the Taliban.  Just look how many people were murdered just this weekend by these terrorists.  Just think about all of the Middle East and the death and destruction these people have caused.  A child cannot go to school and be educated.  Families have no home life.  People cannot work in their businesses.  People cannot even have a decent meal in a restaurant without the worry of  being killed.  It is time to put these terrorists on the shelf.
