Early people in ancient civilizations compare nature’s creative powers with those of a mother, because a mother is the source of life. Through the years, there have been many woman who wanted to be mothers but were not able to bear children and adopted children. Anyone can try to be a mother; but, some people should never be a mother because they do not want the responsibility and never are successful in raising a child. Those people who state, “motherhood is mediocre,” undoubtedly are people who do not want that responsibility or they have not been through a pregnancy and had a child. But, if they have walked in those shoes and make that statement, it is puzzling. The women that do have children and work are to be applauded. We should also applaud women who do not want children because raising a family and working is a balancing act at best; and, putting family first is the motto that has to be used. Since they consider motherhood a lack of accomplishment, then we would certainly not want them to be mothers with that attitude. There are also couples in my life who do not have children and seem perfectly happy and just did not want that responsibility.
