Spending July 4 at the beach is always fun; but, our main focus for the trip was many fold. One day was set aside to let Beau, our puppy, spend the day at the vets office for a “teeth cleaning.” We were apprehensive because they do sedate them and Beau is no spring chicken. But, all went well and everything was fine until the vet gave us anti-biotics (five days worth) and pain pills (three days worth). We both had this look of how were we going to do accomplish this – when once a month we have to give him this heart-worm pill and it is a royal battle for him just to take that little pill. The vet just laughed and said “no problem.” Just take a spoon and put a little plain peanut butter in it and input the pill and “vo – la.” And, sure enough, our little Beau was a happy camper taking his pills – it wasn’t the pills but the peanut butter. But. we also decided – peanut butter will be a treat given only when taking a pill.
Beau has never liked the beach because it reminds him – as the day he lost his original parents and became our puppy. So when we go to our beach house he thinks it is the place where you go to be “given away to new owners.” And now, he really doesn’t like the beach because of all of the fire works. He was a nervous wreck and just could not find any place to hide where he felt safe. I wonder if they make ear plugs for puppies? He did suvive the noise; but, next year we will leave him at home with the sitter on the fourth if we go to the beach.
