How do people measure their life? Do they have goals as they move through the years? Growing up, I always thought in twenty-year increments. When I was twenty, I wondered what would I be doing at forty? I always thought the road was always better than the inn as stated by the Spanish writer, Cervantes, which means a way of living. When I was young, I would think when this goal is achieved – I will have reached my goal. But, then realized as I reached each achievement, just like the inn, it was only a stopping point in the road of life. The realization is that living is the goodness of the journey. As I reflect on the past, the most important part is that I can look to the future with hope and desire. And as I travel the highway of life, I take each inn not as a stopping point but a starting point for something new and challenging.
