CAN YOU JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER?

Growing up people always seem to judge  a person by the way they were dressed and groomed.  This does not work any more does it?  Cultures and fads have always existed throughout the world.  Let’s first define what is a culture and what is a fad.  Cultures are the ideas, skills, arts, tools, and way of life of certain people or civilizations  during a certain period of time.  Fads are a hobby or style that many people are interested in during a certain period of time.  Culture is very important regardless of what part of the world you live.  But, freedom to express that culture is more important.  If you lose your freedom you will have to forget about  expressions of cultures or fads.  Just ask the European people when Hitler invaded their countries.

When you think about culture don’t be ashamed of it.  Culture is what defines you as a person – do not lose it.  Don’t follow the crowd!  Fads have nothing to do with culture.  Fads will always be a part of our lives.  Some of the fads are:  zoot suits, zoot pants, crinoline petticoats,  duck tail hair cuts for men and women, flat tops for men,  two-toned shoes,  taps on men’s shoes,  teased hair, long hair for men, baggy pants, and caps worn in reverse.  It is very easy to stereotype other individuals because most parents want to protect their own.  People are always afraid of “faddy” people.   People relate baggy pants and hats turned backwards as part of  “drug” related people.  Most people accept fads with a final comment as “And this too shall pass.”  The important thing is to be yourself and follow your passions.  Do not let another person reshape you.  Always respect other cultural differences;  and, they in turn will respect  yours.

Society will always dictate – what is  normal.  If you expect to participate in life, standards will always dictate the norm whether  you like it or  not.
