Kamala Harris’ worst plan yet: bringing the NHS to America (msn.com)

Is private health care returning to Britain? Labour’s reform plan for the National Health Service attempted to suggest as much. Keir Starmer quixotically promised that Labour will deliver some two million more appointments, scans, and procedures annually with the help of the private sector.

Something, of course, must be done. Less than one in four people are satisfied with the NHS and its outdated centralised system of universal coverage, which routinely fails to provide adequate services. Some 7.6 million patients, including individuals suffering from cancer, are waiting to start treatment. About half have waited more than four months. Many have anguished for over a year.

Despite these problems, across the Atlantic US politicians have been dreaming of importing this deeply flawed system under the banner of “Medicare for All.” As the British people increasingly turn towards the private sector to address obvious government failure, the United States has begun moving in the opposite direction

The irony seems lost on Kamala Harris and her allies, who have long wanted to implement single-payer health care in the United States. When she was a senator, Harris co-sponsored legislation introduced by self-proclaimed “democratic socialist” Bernie Sanders, a long-time advocate of Medicare for All, which would have abolished private health insurance and forced everyone into a single government-run health plan.

The United States is already falling down the slippery slope towards single-payer health care. Its Medicaid program, established to provide health coverage for the poorest Americans, has ballooned in recent years to insure more than 80 million people. It now covers able-bodied adults with incomes up to 138 per cent of the federal poverty line – over $43,000 for a family of four – in 40 of the 50 states.

In 2022, the Biden-Harris administration enacted legislation capping a person’s insurance premium at 8.5 per cent of income, no matter how much money they make. The cap slides down to a lower percentage as income declines below 400 per cent of poverty, or $124,800 for a family of four. Individuals earning up to 150 per cent of the federal poverty line can acquire premium-free coverage.

If elected, Harris would doubtless try to extend taxpayer-funded Medicaid coverage to able-bodied adults in the ten states that have refused to do so – and make the 2022 scheme for subsidising insurance coverage permanent.

These moves would nudge the United States toward Harris’s old vision of “Medicare for All.” In addition to expanding government health coverage to everyone, not just the elderly as under the status quo, Harris explicitly supports giving taxpayer-funded coverage to those living in America illegally.

The showpiece of her administration’s deviously named 2022 Inflation Reduction Act was another recent lunge towards centrally managed health care. The law enabled the government to set prices it will pay drug makers for certain medicines covered by Medicare starting in 2026 – similar to processes in place in Britain. Democrats recently celebrated the announcement of the first round of government price controls under the law.

It’s curious that the US Left trudges forward to replicate a system considered “broken” by Britain’s own Health Secretary. American Democrats largely rely on emotional appeals to justify an NHS-style model in the States. “Medicare for All” might sound like a compassionate and progressive agenda. But a close look at Britain’s state of affairs reveals nothing comforting.

Nearly 300 people die per week in Britain due directly to the inability of the NHS to provide timely emergency care, according to the Royal College of Emergency Care. Heart attack victims face 90-minute average wait times for an ambulance.

That’s the real human toll of single-payer health care. These government-run systems cannot function properly because they can’t respond flexibly to patient needs. Slow bureaucracies, government limits on NHS spending, layers of authorisation, and endless patient queues are a far cry from the service the private sector provides across most sectors of the economy.

Making a service “free” and “universal” doesn’t ensure its availability. The private sector’s efficiency and quality of services are increasingly viewed as a life raft in a desperate situation, with some prepared to admit that the NHS structure is inherently unsustainable.

If they took the time to look, Kamala Harris and like-minded Democrats might be able to learn valuable lessons from their counterparts in London.

KOMMONSENTSJANE – Post-Debate Voter Survey Backfires on Liberal Media – Patriot Clash

9/14/2024

 September 11, 2024

In a twist that likely left many pundits clutching their pearls, a recent survey has thrown cold water on the notion that Kamala Harris emerged victorious in her latest debate against President Trump. Despite being widely credited with a strong performance, it seems undecided voters weren’t as sold on Harris as some media outlets would like to believe.

The survey, which involved 10 undecided voters, revealed that six participants were leaning toward Trump’s camp post-debate, while only three favored Harris and one remained on the fence. This shift in sentiment is a striking reversal, especially against a backdrop where Harris was expected to capture the hearts of the undecided.

So, what gives? It seems the devil is in the details—or lack thereof. Many participants cited Harris’s vagueness on critical issues, such as tackling the rising costs of housing and everyday goods. Mark Kadish, a 61-year-old entrepreneur from Florida, voiced his frustration, saying, “There was no real meat and bones for her plans.” This sentiment was echoed by Robert Wheeler, a security executive from Nevada, who initially leaned towards Harris. He felt the debate was more about Harris telling voters why not to choose Trump rather than presenting herself as the better option.

While the sample size was small, consisting of four women and six men—eight of whom are White and two Black—it nonetheless mirrors the diversity found among undecided voters in key battleground states. Despite mainstream media’s portrayal of Harris as the debate winner, alarm bells are ringing as more undecided voters express dissatisfaction with her performance.

The debate itself, a 90-minute verbal ping-pong match aired on ABC News, saw Harris lambasting Trump’s policies and leadership. Yet, her failure to provide in-depth answers on issues like tax benefits for working families and small businesses could haunt her campaign. This comes on the heels of controversies involving her campaign allegedly lifting policy passages from Biden’s website, raising eyebrows among voters seeking authenticity.

As Election Day looms, both campaigns are left to ponder these revelations. For Harris, the challenge lies in dispelling perceptions of vagueness and presenting clear, actionable plans. Meanwhile, Trump appears to have struck a chord with voters, emphasizing tangible solutions—an approach that seems to resonate with those still on the fence. With the clock ticking, both candidates will need to sharpen their strategies to sway the undecided, making every debate, speech, and policy proposal crucial in the race to the finish line.

The Biden administration has provided Egypt with $1.3 billion in military aid to help facilitate a ceasefire in Gaza.

According to Reuters, Secretary of State Antony Blinken informed Congress that he waived conditions on the aid, which were related to Egypt’s human rights record, citing U.S. national security interests.

A U.S. spokesperson explained:

“This decision is crucial for advancing regional peace and addressing Egypt’s key role in U.S. national security priorities, including securing a Gaza ceasefire, bringing hostages home, increasing humanitarian aid for Palestinians, and working towards a lasting resolution to the Israel-Hamas conflict,”

The spokesperson also emphasized the ongoing dialogue with Egypt regarding the need for tangible improvements in human rights, a vital element for maintaining a strong U.S.-Egypt partnership.

Despite criticism over Egypt’s alleged human rights abuses under President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi—such as torture and enforced disappearances—Egypt remains a key U.S. ally.

President Sisi has denied accusations of holding political prisoners.

He has stressed the necessity of stability in a country that has faced repeated Islamist militant attacks.

The ongoing Gaza conflict, which escalated after Hamas’s October 7th attack on Israeli civilians, has increased the U.S. administration’s reliance on Egypt for diplomatic efforts.

This includes ceasefire talks.

Egypt’s shared border with Gaza also makes it a crucial channel for delivering humanitarian aid to the region.

Kamala Harris thought she could celebrate a win in her debate with Donald Trump.

But it turned out Kamala Harris popped the champagne corks prematurely.

And Kamala Harris walked off the debate stage and got blindsided by this bad news.

Kamala Harris fails to sway undecided voters

A snap CNN poll after the debate showed 63 percent of viewers thought Kamala Harris won the debate compared to 37 percent who picked Donald Trump.

But that number may be fool’s gold.

Winning the debate isn’t the same thing as winning over voters.

Americans who watched the debate appeared to have given Kamala Harris the win on style, as they didn’t care for Trump’s aggressive approach.

Debate moderator David Muir incorrectly fact-checking Donald Trump on Trump’s true statement that Democrats support allowing babies who survive failed abortion procedures to die may have also played a role, as viewers not well versed in the details of the debate likely trusted Muir even though he deliberately misled them.

But the proof was in the pudding as media outlets spoke to undecided voters.

Reuters ran a focus group that found the undecideds broke decisively for Trump following the debate.

Reuters reported that it “interviewed 10 people who were still unsure how they were going to vote in the Nov. 5 election before they watched the debate. Six said afterward they would now either vote for Trump or were leaning toward backing him. Three said they would now back Harris and one was still unsure how he would vote.”

New York Times also finds Kamala Harris fell short

The Times published a story headlined “Pundits Said Harris Won the Debate. Undecided Voters Weren’t So Sure” that contained major warning signs for Kamala Harris.

Voters across the swing states either said that Kamala Harris failed to make the sale or that they backed Trump.

“She still has to impress me,” 19-year-old Samira Ali, who is a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Madison told The Times.

“I’m still deciding,” Ali added, explaining that she needed to hear more from Kamala Harris about inflation and housing costs.

The Times also reported that “in Las Vegas, Gerald Mayes, 40, said he felt both candidates failed to connect their campaign promises to his family’s budget. And he came away confused.”

34-year-old Keilah Miller of Wisconsin said the debate moved her to Trump.

“Trump’s pitch was a little more convincing than hers,” Miller explained. “I guess I’m leaning more on his facts than her vision.”

Miller admitted life was easier for her when Trump was President.

“When Trump was in office — not going to lie — I was living way better,” Miller declared. “I’ve never been so down as in the past four years. It’s been so hard for me.”

Defense contractor Jason Henderson of Arizona also said the debate moved him to Trump.

“Trump had the more commanding presentation,” Henderson said. “There was nothing done by Harris that made me think she’s better. In any way.”

The pro-Kamala Harris media wanted to portray this debate as a one-sided contest where Kamala Harris destroyed Donald Trump.

But the media outlets that spoke to voters in the immediate aftermath found a different story altogether.

Because the left lies.
