Heavens to Betsy – how much more reproductive freedoms do women need?

Sep 11, 2024 · Reproductive rights include prenatal services, safe childbirth, and access to contraceptions

Abortion control has moved from the Federal government and now is run by each state.

Women are upset because they are not in charge of abortion – Roe vs Wade. This was removed due to the abuse of abortion and now the protection of a fetus is the rule.

12 TYPES OF BIRTH CONTROL

Dec. 7, 2015

By Ashley @ Planned Parenthood

This post has been updated on 11/14/2023. To learn more about all birth control methods, go to plannedparenthood.org/learn/birth-control

Birth control methods vary far and wide. There’s a method for nearly every body and lifestyle. In fact, there are about 12 methods in total and counting. And those methods range from non-hormonal and hormonal to single use and long-lasting use.

Whether you’re thinking of trying a new birth control method or simply wanting to learn more about what’s out there, you’ve found the right place. We know the task of choosing the right birth control method can be daunting, so we’ve done some of the homework for you. Here’s what you need to know about several of the birth control methods out there to make the best decision for your body and lifestyle:

1. Permanent Birth Control

A surgical procedure that makes a person who can produce sperm unable to cause a pregnancy or a person who can ovulate unable to become pregnant. Permanent birth control is not reversible and prevents pregnancy 99% of the time. While people with a uterus can choose from bilateral tubal ligation in the hospital (aka “having your tubes tied”) or a tubal removal done in a health center, people with testes may choose a vasectomy (cutting the tubes that carry sperm). Learn more about the pros, cons and side effects of a tubal ligation, tubal block or vasectomy

2. IUD (Non-hormonal/Hormonal)

A small t-shaped device that is placed inside of the uterus by a health care provider to prevent pregnancy 99% of the time. Less than 1 out of 100 women will get pregnant each year if they use an IUD. Available in non-hormonal (copper) and hormonal options, the IUD is one of the most effective forms of birth control and can last anywhere between 3 to 12 years depending on which type you choose. Non-hormonal and hormonal IUDs work to prevent sperm from fertilizing an egg. Learn more about the pros, cons and side effects of the IUD.

3. Implant (Hormonal)

A small rod placed under the skin in the upper arm by a health care provider to prevent pregnancy 99% of the time. Less than 1 out of 100 women a year will become pregnant using the implant. The implant, which lasts for 3-5 years, releases the hormone progestin to stop the ovaries from releasing eggs, and it thickens cervical mucus, so it is difficult for sperm to enter the uterus. Learn more about the pros, cons and side effects of the implant.

4. The Shot (Hormonal)

An injection given by a medical professional of the hormone progestin in the arm or hip that lasts three months and prevents pregnancy 96% of the time. Less than 1 out of 100 women will get pregnant each year if they always use the shot as directed. The shot, also known as Depo-Provera, stops the ovaries from releasing eggs and thickens the cervical mucus, so it is difficult for sperm to enter the uterus. Learn more about the pros, cons and side effects of the shot.

5. The Vaginal Ring (Hormonal)

A flexible ring that is inserted into the vagina each month that prevents pregnancy 93% of the time. Less than 1 out of 100 women will get pregnant each year if they always use the ring as directed. The vaginal ring releases hormones that stop the ovaries from releasing eggs and thickens cervical mucus, so it is difficult for sperm to enter the uterus. Learn more about the pros, cons and side effects of the ring.

6. Patch (Hormonal)

The patch is applied (like a sticker) weekly to approved areas of skin and prevents pregnancy 93% of the time. Less than 1 out of 100 women will get pregnant each year if they always use the patch as directed. The patch releases hormones that stop the ovaries from releasing eggs, and it thickens cervical mucus, so it is difficult for sperm to enter the uterus. Learn more about the pros, cons and side effects of the patch.

7. The Pill (Hormonal)

A pill that should be taken at the same time every day for maximum effectiveness, which is often used to reduce cramping and bleeding during periods and that prevents pregnancy 93% of the time. Less than 1 out of 100 women will get pregnant each year if they take the pill each day as directed. The pill releases hormones (progestin-only or a combination of hormones) to stop the ovaries from releasing eggs and thickens cervical mucus, so it is difficult for sperm to enter the uterus. Learn more about the pros, cons and side effects of the pill.

8. Condoms (Non-hormonal)

Available in latex or polyurethane, condoms, which prevent pregnancy 87% of the time when used correctly, are placed over an erect penis to stop sperm from entering the vagina during ejaculation. 2 out of 100 women whose partners use condoms will get pregnant if they always use condoms correctly.

Internal/female condoms are inserted into the vagina and prevent pregnancy 79% of the time. This means that 5 out of 100 women will become pregnant if the insertive condom is always used correctly.

Not only are condoms arguably one of the most affordable, accessible forms of birth control, they also protect against STDs. Learn more about the pros, cons and side effects of condoms and insertive condoms.

9. Emergency Contraception (Hormonal & Non-hormonal)

Emergency contraception can be used up to five days after unprotected sex. It can come in the form of a pill or IUD, which have varying degrees of effectiveness. Emergency contraception prevents pregnancy from occurring by preventing ovulation and thickening cervical mucus, but it does NOT cause an abortion. Learn more about the pros, cons and side effects of emergency contraception.

10. Spermicide & Gel

Made with sperm-killing chemicals, spermicides such as foams, suppositories or film (used separately, not in combination) prevent pregnancy 79-86% of the time. 18 out of 100 women will get pregnant each year if they always use the spermicide as directed. Placed inside the vagina shortly before sex, spermicides block the cervix and keep sperm from joining with an egg. Learn more about the pros, cons and side effects of spermicides.

11. Fertility Awareness/ Natural Family Planning (Non-hormonal)

Natural family planning involves a woman tracking her monthly cycle from her period through ovulation to determine when she is most and least likely to get pregnant. When used correctly, this method prevents pregnancy 77-98% of the time. 24 out of 100 women who use natural family planning will have a pregnancy if they use the method correctly. Learn more about the pros, cons and side effects of natural family planning.

13. Withdrawal/Pull-out Method (Non-hormonal)

Withdrawal prevents pregnancy 78% of the time by pulling the penis out of the vagina before ejaculation. 27 out of 100 women whose partners use withdrawal will become pregnant each year, even if used correctly. Remember, there is always a chance of pregnancy if sperm is introduced to the vagina. Learn more about the pros, cons and side effects of the withdrawal method.

If a women becomes pregnant with 13 different methods available – she has a problem.

 By Thomas Cooper

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took aim at former President Donald Trump with sharp criticism following what appears to have been a failed assassination attempt on Trump’s life.

Speaking at the Cap Times Idea Fest event in Wisconsin, Pelosi highlighted the state’s importance in the 2024 election and the preservation of “democracy.”

She stated that “vanquishing Trump” was essential to restoring American democracy and reclaiming a Republican Party she claimed had been “hijacked.”

“He projects. He says ‘crazy Nancy’ — he is crazy,” Pelosi remarked. “He says ‘crooked Hillary’ — he’s crooked. Every adjective he uses is really about himself. So when he says people are eating cats and dogs, I’m just wondering about him.”

Pelosi also stressed the significance of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries becoming Speaker of the House, stating, “For the good of our country, it is absolutely essential that Hakeem Jeffries has the gavel … when Congress votes to accept the results of the Electoral College.”

Her comments came just one day after an apparent assassination attempt on Trump.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and other law enforcement officials shared details about the incident, which occurred at Trump’s golf club in Florida.

According to Bradshaw, a Secret Service agent thwarted the attempt when they spotted a rifle’s barrel near a hole Trump was about to play.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed and expressed relief that Trump was unharmed.

The White House issued a statement, noting they would continue to receive updates on the investigation.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also addressed the incident, announcing on social media that his state would investigate the attempt on Trump’s life, writing:

“The people deserve the truth about the would-be assassin and how he was able to get within 500 yards of the former president.”

Trump’s campaign issued a statement assuring the public that the former president was safe, and Trump himself addressed supporters, declaring, “I AM SAFE AND WELL! Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always love you for supporting me. Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again.”

Time for Nancy to take an ice shower and cool it. You are making yourself look foolish.

KOMMONSENTSJANE – Kamala Has Insane Response After Iran Hands Stolen Trump Material to Biden Campaign.

9/21/2024

This didn’t even move the needle one point!

Does anyone believe this happened – I don’t? Do you think for a minute the Democrats would be squeeling on Iran and talking about it if they did? The cackler is just trying to make herself feel important and get a one-up on President Trump.

Did Kamala receive a political donation from Iran – isn’t that illegal? How did they get the code for Trump’s campaign site? How did Iran get into Trump’s site. It is not something you find on the street.

Given how weak Biden and Harris have been on foreign policy, it’s hard to argue with ANYTHING THEY DO!

Did Kamala unknowingly SPILL THE BEANS in her FIVE WORD SALAD?

Kamala Has Insane Response After Iran Hands Stolen Trump Material To Biden Campaign

 By dan

For much of the past decade, Democrats have constantly accused Donald Trump of colluding with foreign governments during elections. They’ve continued to do this despite having little evidence to back up these assertions. In fact, many of the claims have been completely debunked.

The mainstream media is quick to jump on any claims of Trump collusion with foreign powers. In contrast, they’ve swept most reports of alleged foreign collusion on Democrats’ parts under the rug.

That’s why new reports alleging that Iran stole Trump campaign materials and handed them over to the campaign of Joe Biden prior to him dropping out of the race have gotten little attention. Kamala Harris has now issued a response to these reports. What she had to say is nothing short of ridiculous.

From Fox News:
The Harris campaign addressed the revelation by federal agencies that individuals tied to the Biden campaign were targeted by Iranian actors with emails containing stolen Trump campaign materials, stating that they do not know of any materials sent “directly” to the Biden campaign, but that some people received emails on their personal accounts.

“We have cooperated with the appropriate law enforcement authorities since we were made aware that individuals associated with the then-Biden campaign were among the intended victims of this foreign influence operation,” Harris-Walz campaign spokesperson Morgan Finkelstein said in a statement.

“We’re not aware of any material being sent directly to the campaign; a few individuals were targeted on their personal emails with what looked like a spam or phishing attempt,” Finkelstein added. “We condemn in the strongest terms any effort by foreign actors to interfere in U.S. elections including this unwelcome and unacceptable malicious activity.”

This comes after reports indicated that Iran cyber actors sent stolen, non-public material from the Trump campaign to members of the Biden campaign as text in emails. This allegedly occurred at the end of June and early July, when Biden was still very much in the race.

(Since when do they talk about a matter which is being investigated?)

How Dumb Does Harris Think We Are?

For Harris to claim that she was not aware of this is insulting to the American people’s intelligence. She’s been trying to distance herself from Biden as much as possible since she became the Democratic presidential nominee. The reality is that she was his running mate, and was therefore part of his campaign. That’s why there’s virtually no way that she was unaware of what was happening here when it comes to Iran.

Trump has since responded to these reports on his Truth Social media platform.

More from Fox News:
Trump in a new TRUTH Social post on Thursday demanded to know, “WHEN DOES KAMALA AND HER CAMPAIGN GO BEFORE A GRAND JURY ON IRAN, IRAN, IRAN?”

“MY CAMPAIGN WENT THROUGH HELL ON THE RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA HOAX. THE BIG DIFFERENCE IS THAT THE IRAN/KAMALA CAMPAIGN CORRUPTION CASE IS REAL!” Trump added.

Trump’s campaign spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, has also responded. She’s claimed that Iran is interfering in this election to help Biden and Harris because they know that “Trump will restore his tough sanctions and stand against their reign of terror.”

Given how weak Biden and Harris have been on foreign policy, it’s hard to argue with that theory!

If The Roles Were Reversed…

Just imagine if the roles were reversed, and Trump was accused of receiving stolen Harris campaign information from Iran. The media would be up in arms, and there would be 24-7 news coverage on the claims right up until the election. Since it’s Harris and Biden who are now being accused of foreign collusion, however, the media has little interest in this story.

The mainstream media spent years running with the claims that Trump colluded with Russia to win the 2016 election, only for the allegations to later be debunked. If the press would only put a fraction of that effort into reporting on these latest Iran claims, perhaps Harris wouldn’t have the nerve to think that she could get away with the ridiculous excuse that she put forth here.

Kamala Harris’ latest appeal to Republicans: Trump is weak on foreign policy

Story by Francesca Chambers and Swapna Venugopal Ramaswamy, USA TODAY

USA TODAY

Zelenskyy plans to share Ukraine’s war-ending plans with Biden, Harris, Trump.

View on Watch

This story has been updated with a new subheading.

WASHINGTON – Vice President Kamala Harris is taking a page out of Nikki Haley’s playbook and hitting former President Donald Trump as weak on foreign policy in her latest attempt to win over disaffected Republicans and GOP-leaning independents.

Harris’ campaign released an ad that showcased former members of Trump’s national security team criticizing the ex-president, characterizing him a “danger to our troops and our democracy” and casting him as unfit for office.

During the presidential debate, Harris told Trump that America’s allies in Europe and NATO are thankful he’s out of office. She brought up Russia’s assault on Ukraine and said that if Trump were in charge, Russian President Vladimir Putin “would be sitting in Kyiv with his eyes on the rest of Europe, starting with Poland.”

Then she made a direct appeal to the more than 700,000 Polish Americans living in battleground Pennsylvania.FILE PHOTO: Republican presidential nominee, former U.S. President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris take part in a presidential debate hosted by ABC in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S., September 10, 2024 in a combination of file photographs. The foreign policy-focused outreach is part of a concerted effort by the Harris campaign to win over voters who cast a ballot for Haley, a former United Nations ambassador who made foreign policy the centerpiece of her campaign, in the Republican presidential primary earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Trump’s main foreign policy criticism of Harris has been that overseas wars would not be happening if he were president because he’s seen as strong by other leaders. Trump has characterized the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan as a “humiliation” that “set off the collapse of American credibility and respect all around the world.”

“I will end every single international crisis that the current administration has created, including the horrible war with Russia and Ukraine, which would have never happened if I was president,” he said during his speech at Republican National Convention in July.  “And the war caused by the attack on Israel, which would never have happened if I was president.”

Harris has said relatively little on the campaign trail about her foreign policy agenda outside of her speech at the Democratic National Convention and her comments at the presidential debate.

Her campaign website provides more details and includes the pledge that Harris would “strengthen, not abdicate, our global leadership” and stand up for American interests from China and Iranian-backed groups that the U.S. has deemed to be terrorists.

Foreign policy was once considered Harris’ Achilles’ heel. She did not serve on the foreign affairs committee during her partial term in the Senate and has a mixed record when it comes to issues like dealing with the root causes of migration and Central American leaders.

She rushed to catch up on foreign engagements her first year as vice president. She has since traveled to 21 countries and met with more than 150 world leaders, according to her office. US:Why everyone is excited about this $59 New Blood Sugar Smartwatch

Now, her campaign and former U.S. officials, including Republicans who served in the last administration and Congress, are turning to foreign policy to make their case for her and against Trump.

“For a lot of Republican voters like myself, it is alarming to hear someone like Donald Trump repeatedly laud Viktor Orban of Hungary,” Olivia Troye, a former Trump administration official, told USA TODAY.Former President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump arrives to speak at a campaign rally in Uniondale, N.Y., on Sept. 18, 2024.

More than 200 former George W. Bush, John McCain and Mitt Romney alums endorsed Harris in late August. An overlapping group of more than 100 Republican national security leaders endorsed Harris on Wednesday. Former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter, former Wyoming congresswoman Liz Cheney, have thrown their support behind Harris. Troye, a former homeland security adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence, spoke at the Democratic National Convention.

Most Americans support continued assistance, but a Pew study from May found 49% of Republicans now believe the U.S. is sending too much.

Rick Wilson, co-founder of the Lincoln Project, a group of moderate conservatives and former Republicans, says Harris has been effective at putting Trump in a box on national security and foreign policy, highlighting his embrace of authoritarian leaders and portraying him as the weaker of the two candidates.

“She’s running as a sort of national security centrist that would be familiar from the 80s and 90s to a lot of Republicans,” Wilson told USA TODAY.

Every modern American president has committed the U.S. to being a world leader and building its alliances, except one, former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told USA TODAY. He said it demonstrates “how isolated Donald Trump is from that great tradition of Republican presidents.”

“I think that’s why we’ve gotten so much support from Republicans, because they see the vice president supporting our alliances and supporting democracy around the world,” Harris’ national Republican engagement director Austin Weatherford said.

Republicans against Trump – and Harris

Ex-Trump national security advisor John Bolton – now a detractor of the former president – says he’s not voting for Harris.

While much of Haley’s base was staunch Republicans and independents like Troye who broke with Trump – some anti-Trump Republicans plan to write someone in from their own party rather than go with Harris.

“My sincere belief is I don’t think either one of them are competent to be president,” Bolton said.

Haley’s supporters say they’re still making up their minds about what to do in the election.

Munir Lalani, a registered Republican from Texas and former Haley supporter said he was “undecided” on whether he would even vote.

Munir and Vickie Lalani, donors to Nikki Haley’s campaign attended a fundraiser with her in Dallas, Texas, in February 2024© Submitted

Lalani voted for Trump in 2020. He says the January 6 Capitol attack was too much of a barrier for him to support Trump now. But he is not impressed by Harris’ approach.

“We’ve got everybody confused. Israel does not know whether they can count on us” Lalani told USA TODAY.

He added: “The U.S. can’t be left holding the bag for everyone,” he said.

While some of Bolton’s former colleagues in the Bush administration, where he served as U.N. ambassador, have said publicly that they’re going to back Harris, he told USA TODAY, “There are a lot more former colleagues that have decided they’re going to vote for Trump.”

“They’re not writing letters about it,” he added.

The most high profile of the Trump defectors Pence has also declined to endorse either candidate. The former vice president says he’ll be staying out of the race. At an August event hosted by conservative radio host Erick Erickson, he cited the “growing abandonment of our allies on the world stage” as a reason for not backing his former running mate.

Lawmaker says Harris tries to ‘both sides’ situation on Israel-Gaza war

Trump has tried to win back support by trying to cast Harris as anti-Israel in the race that will be decided on the margins.

He said in the debate that she hates Israel and that Hamas’ attack would never have happened if he were still president.

“She’s the one that caused it,” he claimed. He went on to say of President Joe Biden and Harris, “The leaders of other countries think that they’re weak and incompetent.”

Republican Congressman Mike Lawler of New York, a Trump supporter who serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said trying to cast Trump as weak on foreign policy is “projection” on Harris’ part.

“We weren’t having global conflicts under Donald Trump and border crossings were down. The conflicts and the numbers speak for themselves,” he told USA TODAY. “Under Biden and Kamala Harris, the world is a tinderbox and we’re in the most precarious place we are in since World War II because of their failed policies of appeasement.”

Lawler also brought up the “disastrous” U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, which led to the killing of 13 American service members in the final days of the war. The agreement that paved the way for the U.S. to leave was negotiated by the Trump administration and Biden opted to stick with it.

During the Trump-Harris debate, she dodged the question of whether she was responsible for the withdrawal, instead saying she agreed with President Biden’s decision to pull out.

“Four presidents said they would, and Joe Biden did,” she said.

She also inaccurately asserted during the debate that there were no U.S. soldiers deployed in overseas “combat” zones. The U.S. maintains nearly 1,000 troops on bases in Syria and another 2,500 in Iraq, according to the U.S. Department of Defense. Both places are mired in low-level conflict.

On Israel’s war with Hamas, Lawler characterized the administration as “extremely weak and erratic.”

Lawler cast her support of Biden’s decision in May to withhold a shipment of 2,000-pound bombs from Israel over concerns over them being used in densely populated areas of Gaza, as an example of an “arms embargo” to Israel.

“I mean Kamala Harris has been out there trying to both sides the situation in Gaza,” said Lawler.

Harris has repeatedly said that she does not support an arms embargo on Israel, including in a DNC speech in which she said she both sympathizes with Palestinian people and supports Israel’s right to defend itself against the Hamas militants who killed more than 1,200 Israelis and took approximately 250 hostages. According to the Hamas-run Gazan Health Ministry, more than 40,000 Palestinians have died in the ensuing war..

For Republicans who espouse traditional U.S. foreign policy views, Harris’ vision of America’s role in the world is more representative of former Republican President Ronald Reagan’s views than the America First agenda they’re hearing from Trump.

“Whenever you listen to Trump’s speech and you listen to Harris’ speech on foreign policy and on security matters, if you’re a Reagan Republican, you’d say she’s closer than Trump is,” said former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, a Republican who competed against Trump in the GOP primary.

Hutchinson attended the DNC and said Harris has “made good strides” on national security and the administration has been consistent on its approach to Ukraine and Israel. But he says he can not vote for Harris. He questioned her commitment to a centrist approach to the economy, the issue that voters have consistently said is the most important to them in the election.

Harris’ campaign noted that she’s improved her standing with undecided voters although there’s more work to do.

“We think there’s a huge number of Republicans that will come out and be supportive of the vice president,” Weatherford said. “We are going to be talking to those voters every day from now until the election.”
