Voters sent a clear message in the 2024 Election that Democrats had gone too far in pushing the transgender agenda.
House Democrats refused to learn this lesson.
The House narrowly passed the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act with the support of only two Democrats.
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) used it as an opportunity to do some grandstanding.
The bill simply banned biological males from competing in girls’ sports.
Ocasio-Cortez went on a fact-free tirade that Republicans were empowering child predators to conduct genital examinations to see if kids were allowed to participate in sports.
Of course, the bill does no such thing because gender would simply be determined with a birth certificate.
Nevertheless, Democrats began calling the bill the “House GOP Child Predator Empowerment Act.”
This was too much for one left-wing college professor.
Rutgers University law professor Gary Francione had been a Democrat since the 1970s and proudly voted for former Vice President Kamala Harris.
He is a vegan and animal rights activist who supports abortion and LGBTQ rights.
But Ocasio-Cortez’s lunatic characterization of the bill as empowering child predators was too much for him.
Francione switched from a registered Democrat to an independent because he was so upset that Democrats painted protecting girls’ sports as supporting child predators.
Ocasio-Cortez drives Democrats away from the party
He told Fox News in an interview that he’s noticed other Democrats leaving the party because of the party’s insanity over issues like this.
“I can say confidently of the people I know who are Democrats who I’ve spoken to, the vast majority of them are very unhappy about all of this stuff and feel that the party has lost its way,” Francione stated. “I know a couple who said they are going to [unregister].”
Francione was outraged at the dishonest tactics that Democrats employed in the fight over the bill.
“That just made me very upset because it screamed out lack of integrity, lack of honesty,” Francione explained. “This is the way you fight battles? By trying to insult other people who oppose you and disagree with you and insinuate that they’re child molesters or pedophiles? It seems to me you’ve lost the game. … I don’t know how they’re ever going to come back from this.”
He called the idea of letting men compete against women in sports “discriminatory” and dismissed the arguments against the bill as “irresponsible.”
“I thought it was very unfair to the large number of very decent people who are concerned about fairness and safety in women’s sports,” Francione said. “These young girls, they train hard, they work hard, and then they get things taken away from them by men!”
A New York Times/Ipsos poll found that 79% of Americans oppose letting biological males compete in women’s sports.
Ocasio-Cortez called supporters of the bill, the vast majority of Americans, “bigots.”
She and Democrats are way out of step with public opinion on this issue.
That doesn’t bode well for Democrats finding their way out of the political wilderness.
