KOMMONSENTSJANE – Joe Manchin Torches ‘Toxic’ Democratic Party in Blistering CNN Interview: They ‘Tried to Mainstream the Extreme’.

P.M.

Following is a good example of what Manchin is talking about – “toxic” verbiage from Democrats to get attention.

This is the thinking with the Democrats today:

Raju then read a quote from Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX): “Okay, this is from the incoming chair of the House Progressive Caucus. He says, ‘If the Democratic Party was a little more like Chairwoman Jayapal and a little less…like Joe Manchin, I think we would have won this election.”

“They gotta be nuts!” Manchin said. “For someone to say that, they’ve got to be completely insane!”

Manchin was the only person in the Democratic Party who had COMMON SENSE. The rest of the bunch were so fixed on GETTING PRESIDENT TRUMP – THEY LOST THEIR MINDS AND ANY REASONING..

What happened to the Democratic Party – They were kidnapped by Biden/Harris/Pelosi/Obama/tech media and weaponized the whole government while spending trillions of dollars on Bidenomics/ immigrants/Ukraine/Getting Trump/stupidity – while putting our country/people into “HELL IN A HAND BASKET”. Now the lefties are saying – DON’T PUNISH US with all of the crimes we committed.

Joe Manchin Torches ‘Toxic’ Democratic Party in Blistering CNN Interview: They ‘Tried to Mainstream the Extreme

View on Watch

West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin (D), who broke free from the Democratic Party last spring to register as an Independent, had nothing but derision for the Left when he sat down for a one-on-one interview with CNN’s Manu Raju.

“Do you still consider yourself a Democrat?” Raju asked Manchin, who is set to retire at the end of this term.

“I am not a Democrat. In the form of what the Democratic Party has turned itself into, the national brand? Absolutely not. And they know that,” Manchin answered, continuing:

Here’s what I told them. I said, you ought to figure out how you lost somebody like me. I was born as a Democrat because of my grandfather’s love of FDR. I was a very strong Democrat because of my family’s love of John Fitzgerald Kennedy. I came through the whole iteration, and then I was a Democrat in West Virginia, and it has always been a 75 to 80% plurality of Democrats, registered Democrats. But there was a split. I was never in the liberal side of it. I was never in the establishment side. So I always had to fight my way through.

RAJU: Is it a shift on social issues?

MANCHIN: Yeah. The brand got so bad, the “D-brand” has been so maligned from the standpoint of, it’s just it’s toxic. And the D-brand is basically this. You know, I’ve told them. I said, first of all, as an American, and as a as someone in the Senate, and I’m going to take the constitutional oath, the Constitution that I take very, very, very, very seriously, I’m going to help every human being pursue…happiness in their life, pursuit of happiness.

I don’t care who they are. I don’t care what color. I don’t care any of the things, who they love…I’m going to make sure you have that opportunity and right to live your life. Just don’t make your life, if it might be on the extremes or in the minority of few, make me believe that’s the norm or make me and my family believe, or my children believe, or this or that. No, I will protect you. Just don’t try to mainstream it. And the Democratic Party, the Washington Democrats, have tried to mainstream the extreme.

KOMMONSENTSJANE – A boon for US workers or ‘incredibly irresponsible’? Expert slams Social Security Fairness Act – says it will lead to ‘deeper and faster’ benefit cuts — while…..

12/22/2024

This is one good reason why the voters voted against the Democratic Party. Just think of all of the taxpayer money they are giving to immigrants and then they try to blow up our Social Security system. The inauguration won’t come soon enough.

They don’t have a clue about money that is not theirs to spend.

After receiving approval from the U.S. Senate in the early morning hours of Dec. 21, the Social Security Fairness Act is set to be presented to the president and signed into law. The bill is designed to bolster Social Security benefits for a portion of Americans. But, despite its name, a number of experts don’t believe the legislation to be fair at all.

One of them is Brenton Smith of the Heartland Institute, a public policy think tank. He described the bill as “incredibly irresponsible” in a column for MarketWatch. He also says it could result in automatic benefit cuts happening sooner, leaving those who may rely on Social Security worried about their future income.

Meanwhile, the bill’s passage is being celebrated by public worker groups, who argue millions of Americans were shortchanged when it came to receiving benefits.

So, what exactly is the Social Security Fairness Act, and why do Smith and others think it’s such a problem?

What’s the Social Security Fairness Act?

The Social Security Fairness Act makes it possible for those who opted out of Social Security at some point during their career to receive more retirement benefits. It does this in two ways.

First, it gets rid of the Windfall Elimination Provision, which can reduce benefits for workers who get pension or disability benefits from an employer that doesn’t collect Social Security taxes — such as public service employees. The act also eliminates the Government Pension Offset, which can reduce spousal benefits if you get retirement or disability income from government-based work that doesn’t require you to pay Social Security taxes.

Smith explained that around 4% of employees contribute to non-covered pensions instead of Social Security. Some of these workers also at one point had jobs that did pay into the system or are married to people who do pay Social Security taxes. Under the proposed rule changes, these workers could receive “overly generous” benefit checks, Smith claims, partly funded by those who regularly paid into Social Security.

Proponents of the bill say the old regulations are unfair to government workers who previously contributed to Social Security. The rules penalize those who decide to enter public service and become firefighters, police officers, postal workers and teachers.

Some critics of the bill agree the regulations to be struck down should be reformed, however, they argue the act will worsen Social Security’s finances. The program’s trust funds are already projected to run dry as late as 2035, at which point it may begin doling out reduced benefits. Now, Smith says he’s concerned the bill “will actually lead to deeper and faster automatic benefit cuts for those of us who have been paying into Social Security for decades.”

What can Americans do?

Smith listed a number of Washington, D.C., think tanks — which are often in disagreement — that are aligned in opposition to the legislation. As it comes closer to being signed into law, these discussions serve as a reminder of the importance retirees should place on savings outside Social Security.

For one thing, without government action to shore up the program’s finances, the possibility of Social Security benefit cuts is very real, with or without this bill. It’s up to the politicians to do something about it.

One of the think tanks Smith mentioned, the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, estimates the Fairness Act will hasten Social Security’s insolvency by six months and further reduce lifetime benefits for retirees. But there are other things that may impact the program’s finances in the near future. Experts believe some of President-elect Donald Trump’s election campaign promises could also accelerate a cash shortfall.

Putting money into retirement plans like a 401(k) or IRA can give you some peace of mind knowing you’ll have money available to you outside of Social Security.

*****

Social security and 401K plans are both government plans. Just a word of caution, it is good to give to both: but, I would also have some saved out of the government’s hands. Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket as they say.

KOMMONSENTSJANE – List: Seven of the Most Idiotic Things Rino’s Hid in the Continuing Resolution..

Too many laadeedaa’s in this bill – thank you Mr. Viveek:

I was informed the real reason they make the bills so long is so that the users won’t bother to read them – just shove them in front of the elected reps to sign them – and that is the heart of the problem.

The so-called DOGE brothers of Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy appear to have scored the first victory in their war against wasteful government spending, and President-elect Donald Trump hasn’t even taken office yet.

Congressional leaders had struck a “bipartisan” deal to fund the government until March 14 through what’s called a continuing resolution, but quite a few add-ons were included, making what should only have been a few-page bill roughly 1,500 pages long.

First, it’s a good rule of thumb that when “bipartisan” is used to describe a piece of legislation, that means Republicans have rolled over and Democrats are getting most, if not all, of what they want.

A true Republican lawmaker — not one in name only — is always looking for ways to cut spending and decrease the size and power of the federal government.

This CR did the opposite.

Ramaswamy, who will co-chair Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, listed four of the most idiotic things tacked on to a bill that was supposed to simply keep the current spending levels in place until the new GOP Congress takes over next month and gets to work.

The CR included a hefty pay raise for members of Congress, up from the current $174,000-per-year salary.

It expanded federal health care benefits. Further, it called for opening a new NFL stadium in Washington, D.C. and renewed the Global Engagement Center established during the final year of President Barack Obama’s administration.

The center, which is part of the State Department, “is tasked with countering foreign state and non-state propaganda and disinformation targeting the United States and U.S. interests,” according to the Congressional Research Service.

Ramaswamy called the center a “key node of the censorship industrial complex.”

Real-time advice to Congress: go back to the drawing board, start with a blank slate & do this the right way. There’s still time for forgiveness. https://t.co/O9P9wWXZ5E

— Vivek Ramaswamy (@VivekGRamaswamy) December 18, 2024

So that’s four ridiculous things.

There were also some “woke” provisions in the CR to satisfy Democrats. It replaced the word “offender” of federal crimes to “justice-involved individual.”

Makes you wonder who wrote this thing. https://t.co/ZC9vDb7c2k

— Bill Melugin (@BillMelugin_) December 18, 2024

The bill would have also broadened the definition of “United States person” to include “any person in the United States,” i.e. not just citizens or lawful resident aliens.

Finally, the legislation would have replaced “homeless individuals” with “individuals experiencing homelessness.”

REPORT: @SpeakerJohnson‘s Continuing Resolution Completely Solves America’s Homeless Problem Once & For All By Changing “Homeless Individuals” To “People Experiencing Homelessness” They Do The Same For Homeless Children.
WHEW! THANK GOD, THEY FINALLY SOLVED THE HOMELESS ISSUE! pic.twitter.com/EcmmqH4TT0

All three instances above are typical silly leftist changes in language to make people less responsible for their actions.

Musk declared victory on Wednesday afternoon, posting, “Your elected representatives have heard you and now the terrible bill is dead.”

Your elected representatives have heard you and now the terrible bill is dead. The voice of the people has triumphed!

VOX POPULI
VOX DEI

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) December 18, 2024

“The voice of the people has triumphed!” he added.

The bill is dead and Johnson and other leaders are reportedly working on a “clean” — or at least cleaner — CR that likely includes funding the government, extending the debt ceiling, disaster relief and a provision for farmers.

That is what Trump supports.

VP-ELECT VANCE: “What the President believes is that we should support a clean CR, so long as it contains a debt limit increase. That’s the position of the President & that’s what we’re going to try to push for.”pic.twitter.com/FZq0LEpkNk

Hopefully, this will be the first of many DOGE victories that will bring the federal government back to operating within its means.

Interest costs on U.S. federal debt:

2024: $1.05 trillion (so far)
2023: $879 billion
2022: $718 billion
2021: $562 billion
2020: $523 billion
2019: $573 billion
2018: $522 billion
2017: $457 billion
2016: $430 billion

The future of the U.S. economy and its position as superpower for good depends on it.

Add another verse to the Republican’s gamesmanship. The words in the bills should be SHARP, CLEAR, AND CONCISE – TO THE POINT.

Time for the Republican reps to ‘pull up their drawers’ and start reading what they are signing and do their job.
