Elections, they say, have consequences and a Hegseth-led Department of Defense is a great consequence for those who want merit, fairness, and competence in the military. It is a shame, but maybe not surprising that Collins, McConnell, and Murkowski could not see this. Fortunately, Vance made sure their misguided opinions didn’t get in the way of real change at the Pentagon.

Now back to tonight’s top story, the Senate working late

FOX News

Hegseth confirmed as more Trump nominees await confirmation hearings

Pete Hegseth squeaked through his Senate confirmation on Friday and became America’s new secretary of defense, but he needn’t thank Republican senators Mitch McConnell, Lisa Murkowski, and Susan Collins.

For all three long-time establishment and anti-Trump senators, the main objection to Hegseth stepping into the top Pentagon job was that they believe he lacks the prerequisite experience to run the mammoth organization. Here is how Murkowski put it in an X post: “Managing the Department of Defense requires vast experience and expertise as the department is one of the most complex and powerful organizations in the world, and Mr. Hegseth’s prior roles in his career do not demonstrate to me that he is prepared for such immense responsibility.”

Never mind that Hegseth was educated at Princeton and Harvard and served more than a decade in the U.S. Army infantry. Forget that he rose to the rank of major while serving tours in Afghanistan. And disregard that he is a published author who has led veteran advocacy organizations. The problem for these senators was that Hegseth lacks the traditional credential of having worked for a defense contractor, the very type that have been captured over the past two decades by the woke agenda Hegseth has vowed to eliminate.

REPUBLICANS REACT TO PETE HEGSETH’S CONFIRMATION AS DEFENSE SECRETARY: ‘HE IS THE CHANGE AGENT’

Let’s take Trump’s last Defense Secretary, the eminently qualified Mark Esper. Like Hegseth, Esper served in the military, but upon leaving active service, he held a menagerie of high-profile jobs with legislators, the Chamber of Commerce, and eventually as a vice president for defense company Raytheon.

This is exactly the kind of resume that McConnell, Murkowski and Collins were looking for. Esper is the kind of guy who gets 90 votes in favor of confirmation, as he did in 2019, but in building that corporate CV he looked the other way as the institutions he served embraced wokeness and DEI.

Here is what Shanda Hinton, Raytheon Technologies’ chief diversity officer, had to say in 2023: “Advancing diversity, equity and inclusion is more than a goal – it’s our duty and a critical element of our ESG strategy. This recognition only encourages us to keep pushing to create generational change.”

I’m not trying to argue that Esper is some kind of Ibram X Kendi when it comes to things like critical race theory. But he clearly looked the other way as these perverse progressive mindsets took hold.

This was the gentle cowardice of the old Republican Party, always scared of being called names by the left if they didn’t pretend men can become women and America is a deeply racist country. But now is time for courage. This is why Hegseth is the right man for this moment. While the Mark Espers of the world stood by as DEI programs and wokeness infected the military and defense industry, Hegseth was writing books about the leftist institutional capture of our armed forces and schools.

The former “Fox & Friends” weekend anchor may never have been a C-suiter at a massive corporation, but all of those companies have been complicit in the anti-merit based policies that Hegseth promised to pull the plug on during his Senate confirmation hearings.

In a very real sense, Hegseth is qualified because he isn’t “qualified.” Almost anybody who checked the boxes that McConnell, Murkowski and Collins demand would be coming from the same groupthink swamp that has made our military weaker in the name of diversity.

The American people voted for Trump in large part because they know that Democrats have lost their minds in the culture war. We don’t want men in women’s sports and we do want a military focused on being lethal, not politically correct.

If Hegseth winds up in over his head we will know it pretty fast, and I will gladly apologize to his twin detractors on the Republican side of the senate aisle, but that is very unlikely to happen, and how high is the bar really when Biden’s DefSec Lloyd Austin just went missing for a few days and nobody cared?

Hegseth has a chance to fix the military the way Trump wants him to because the American people elected Trump to get that exact thing done.

Elections, they say, have consequences and a Hegseth-led Department of Defense is a great consequence for those who want merit, fairness, and competence in the military. It is a shame, but maybe not surprising that Collins, McConnell, and Murkowski could not see this. The nerve of Mitch casting his stones when he allowed Biden/Obama/Pelosi’s devilment. One look at our debt since Obama/Biden proves no one was tending or cared about the Constitution/country’s health.

When the scale is at zero with our country under Mitch’s charge at the time – you can’t go any lower. Therefore, the only way to start is up. Why wasn’t our weaponization freak show by Obama/Biden/Pelosi called out by Mitch?

But, now, he seems to have a lot to say. Were they enjoying the destruction by Obama/Biden/Pelosi?

Mitch McConnell has issued a scathing statement questioning new defense secretary Pete Hegseth’s credentials for the role.

Minutes after Hegseth was appointed to the position, McConnell outlined his concerns, arguing the former Fox News host had “failed” to prove himself.

JD Vance rescued Hegseth in the Senate with the vote stuck at 50-50, marking only the second time inhistory that a Vice President had to break a Cabinet nominee tie. He will be sworn in on Saturday morning by Vance at the White House.

McConnell, the former Senate Republican Leader, had voted against Hegseth, as did GOP Senators Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine.

“The most consequential cabinet official in any Administration is the Secretary of Defense. In the face of the gravest threats to US national security interests since World War II, this position is even more important today,” McConnell wrote.Pete Hegseth Capitol Hill

“Mr. Hegseth has failed, as yet, to demonstrate that he will pass this test. But as he assumes office, the consequences of failure are as high as they have ever been,” his statement continued. “The United States faces coordinated aggression from adversaries bent on shattering the order underpinning American security and prosperity. In public comments and testimony before the Armed Services Committee, Mr. Hegseth did not reckon with this reality.

He also questioned his ability to protect US ally Taiwan amid repeated invasion threats from China.

McConnell said Hegseth offered “no substantial observations on how to defend Taiwan or the Philippines against a Chinese attack, or even whether he believes the United States should do so.”

There is a time and place for the words you are asking.

Is there a conflict of interest with McConnell since his wife’s parents are in the shipping business? Is that why he doesn’t like President Trump?

The family of Elaine Chao, the transportation secretary and wife of Mitch McConnell, the Senate majority leader, has high-level political connections not only in the United States but also in China. That gives the family unusual status in the world’s two largest economies.

Through interviews, industry filings and government documents from both countries, The New York Times found that the Chaos, and by extension Mr. McConnell, prospered as the family’s shipping company developed deeper business ties in China. Along the way, one of the company’s boosters was Ms. Chao, who now oversees efforts to promote America’s own maritime industry, which is in steep decline as China’s shipping sector rises in global dominance.

KOMMONSENTSJANE – Federal workers’ ‘revenge’ plot after being forced back to office..

01/24/2025

DUH?

The mentality of these workers doesn’t add up – if you weren’t at work and therefore no purchase was made and you are there and still not making a purchase – no difference? How does that hurt anyone?

Allowing people to work from home doesn’t sound efficient, especially government employees. With their attitude – they need to find a job closer to their home which would meet their needs. Working from home works when you have your own business, i.e., real estate.

Sounds like these folks need to understand the needs of the employer/efficiency.

Spiteful federal government workers have vowed to boycott struggling mom-and-pop businesses near their offices after Donald Trump banned remote working.

In a now-deleted Reddit post titled ‘Boycott using local businesses around work site if forced back to office, several federal discussed how to fight back against Trump’s order.

‘For those that end up being forced back to their respective offices I would avoid patronizing the local businesses in those areas,’ the original poster said.

‘Bring your own lunch to avoid using the eateries and grocery stores, avoid parking in pay parking (use mass transit if available), and don’t buy anything at the shops or has stations.’

It is unclear how these forms of ‘protest’ would in any way affect or impede the government bosses forcing the angry workers back into the office.

Democratic DC mayor Muriel Bowser said she supported Trump’s order because it would bring more people to the downtown economy; she has previously tied a decline in retail and office space revenue to a lack of federal workers in their offices.

But the federal workers who left comments under the reddit post said it was not up to them to revitalize the capital’s economy, noting a return to the office would mean more costs for them.

One comment read: ‘On principle, I will bring my lunch (or starve) every day rather than give a dime to DC businesses if this is part of the justification. Boycott DC needs to become a thing for all feds ASAP.’

Another said: ‘Local economy was one of the reasons stated in that OPM memo. That’s one of the few things we can control here, and they showed their hand. KOMMONSENTSJANE – Laundering of kooky online smear’: WSJ Editorial Board Slaps Dem’s After Musk Salute.

‘Laundering of a kooky online smear’: WSJ editorial board slaps Dems after Musk salute

The Wall Street Journal raced to the defense of the world’s richest man on Wednesday evening to ward off what it claimed was “disinformation” peddled by Democrats, who soundly rebuked Elon Musk over his salute that drew comparisons to a Hitler salute.

Musk put his hand on his chest and then raised it in a salute during a speech to a cheering MAGA crowd at President Donald Trump’s inauguration rally earlier this week.

Critics including Democrats and historians expressed outrage over the gesture.

“What do you think of Elon Musk, perhaps the President’s most visible adviser, doing two ‘heil Hitler’ salutes last night at the President’s televised rally?” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) asked Elise Stefanik, nominated to be Ambassador to the United Nations.

The Journal’s editorial board took issue with such criticisms.

“What an object lesson in the laundering of a kooky online smear,” the board railed Wednesday evening. “Roll back the tape, and Mr. Musk is reacting to a roaring arena as he says the 2024 election really mattered, and his heart goes out to the crowd. He slaps his chest and waves an arm toward the audience. The peanut gallery on social media went nuts, suggesting it was an intentional Nazi salute, which mainstream outlets then cited to justify covering the supposed controversy.

The editorial board noted that the Anti-Defamation League, an organization dedicated to combatting antisemitism, publicly defended Musk as well, writing on Musk’s X platform: “This is a delicate moment. It’s a new day and yet so many are on edge. Our politics are inflamed, and social media only adds to the anxiety. It seems that @elonmusk made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute, but again, we appreciate that people are on edge.”

Musk, the Journal argued, might just be “awkward.”

It pointed to a “Saturday Night Live” segment in which Musk joked he may make history as “the first person with Asperger’s to host.” The board also pointed to his less-than-graceful leap at a Trump campaign rally last year, in which he exposed part of his midriff.

“No, he’s really a Nazi, some Democrats now say,” chided the Journal, before quoting Rep. Jerrold Nadler saying, “I never imagined we would see the day when what appears to be a Heil Hitler salute would be made behind the Presidential seal. I urge all of my colleagues to unite in condemning this hateful gesture for what it is: antisemitism.”

“There it is, the birth of a partisan talking point—and the spreading of disinformation,” the editorial board concluded.

****

How immature can you be: Senator Murphy/Rep Nadler/Democrats? They act like idiots. They looked like a bunch of dogs fighting over a bone – as to who was going to run with it.
