Newly elected Pope Leo XIV at the main central loggia balcony of the St Peter's Basilica for the first time, after the cardinals ended the conclave in The Vatican on May 8, 2025.

Newly elected Pope Leo XIV at the main central loggia balcony of the St Peter’s Basilica for the first time, after the cardinals ended the conclave in The Vatican on May 8, 2025.

When Pope Leo XIV addressed the crowds in St. Peter’s Square on Thursday evening, the first American pope made it clear that the view from his balcony was not the view from the United States. He began in Italian, added a few lines in Spanish, and concluded with the traditional blessing in Latin. He didn’t speak a word of English. He sent greetings to his former diocese of Chiclayo, in Peru, but not to his hometown of Chicago, Illinois.Japanese Grip Device Could Delay Assisted Living for Millions

Until Thursday, it was a given that the pope would not have an American point of view. Catholics in the U.S. are used to thinking of the pope as a remote figure, unreachable and otherworldly — which is why it created such a stir when Pope Francis did things like paying his own hotel bill or posing for photos with famous American comedians.

The language barrier has helped maintain that air of unreality around the papacy. The pope is someone to look at, rather than listen to; if we do hear his voice, we don’t expect to understand the words. When the last three popes made their official visits to the United States, they prayed in Latin, read haltingly from prepared texts, and communicated largely through translators. None of them was comfortable conversing in English. Enter Pope Leo XIV, a native speaker of American English with a mild Chicago accent. He chose not to reveal that aspect of himself in his first message to the world, but when he does turn his attention to English-speaking Catholics, there will be no need for a translator and no straining to make out his words. On the contrary, he will be startlingly easy to understand. When, during his first Mass as pope, he began his homily with a few sentences in English, he sounded like any Midwesterner, flat vowels and all.

When and how Leo XIV will turn his attention to the United States is what we’re all watching for now. I don’t see him going out of his way to pick fights with Donald Trump or anyone else in American political leadership. But he chose a name that recalls the legacy of Pope Leo XIII, whose writings in support of workers’ rights and human dignity earned him a reputation as the father of Catholic Social Teaching. That choice seems to be a deliberate signal of solidarity with the working class and the poor, and when the moment comes for Leo XIV to express those principles, he will be difficult to ignore.

View on Watch

Months after his election in 2013, Pope Francis issued “Evangelii Gaudium,” a document that condemned the exploitation of the poor and called for attention to “the structural causes of poverty.” He wrote, “Inequality is the root of social ills,” and he specifically rejected trickle-down theories as expressing “a crude and naïve trust in the goodness of those wielding economic power and in the sacralized workings of the prevailing economic system.”

Conservative American commentators rushed to downplay Francis’ words. He didn’t really understand the American context, they said; he was thinking of South America, where capitalism is more corrupt. Or they took issue with the official Vatican translation, insisting that it was more moderate in the original Spanish. That was self-soothing nonsense, and as Francis’ papacy went on, it became harder to cast him as any kind of conservative. But the language barrier did make it easier for some to believe that the plain-speaking pope was an intellectual lightweight.

Leo XIV, on the other hand, will face no obstacles when he has something to communicate to American Catholics. There will be no opportunity for anyone to soften his remarks with “What the Holy Father meant to say…” This is certainly bad news for Catholics like Vice President J.D. Vance, who want to use church teaching to serve authoritarian ends. Perhaps the cardinals liked the idea of an American pope who can condemn human rights abuses and call for restitution and repentance in words that will not need translating.

For all his pride in his Argentine roots, Francis never made an official visit to Buenos Aires after he left there to become pope. He seemed to know that such a visit could be used to political ends. For the same reason, the United States could be waiting a long time for a visit from its first native pontiff. Leo XIV has watched from Rome as bishops in American dioceses allowed themselves to be used by Trump and lost their credibility in the process. Even Pope Francis was manipulated into a meeting with Kim Davis, the clerk who lost her job for refusing to certify same-sex marriages, when he came to the United States in 2015. The Vatican later had to clarify that the meeting did not indicate support for her actions, and the intermediary who arranged it — Archbishop Carlo Viganò — has since been excommunicated.

Pope Leo surely recognizes the need to be shrewd in dealing with American politics. If and when he speaks directly to America, it will be because he has something important to say. For our part, Americans — and especially American Catholics — will hear it not as a murmur from afar, but as a familiar-sounding voice ringing in our ears. Then, the question will be, Are we prepared to listen?

So many people say, I am trying to find myself – which is such a waste of time. We thank Mr. Buffet for sharing them.

  • Warren Buffett has shared life and business advice throughout his long career.
  • His lessons apply to everything from the business world to family life.
  • The billionaire said he plans to step down from Berkshire Hathaway at the end of the year.

Warren Buffett has dropped a lot of advice gems throughout his 55 years at the helm of Berkshire Hathaway.

Buffett said Saturday that he’d be stepping down as CEO by the end of 2025. And in addition to his legacy with the company, he’s also left behind countless nuggets of wisdom for anyone from high-powered leaders to those working their way up the corporate ladder.

The 94-year-old spent about 70 years teaching investment classes, and his mentorship has expanded over time to include life lessons. Buffett has previously said that he gets something out of sharing knowledge, too.

“Teaching, like writing, has helped me develop and clarify my own thoughts,” Buffett said in a 2020 address to graduates of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Here are some of Buffet’s best nuggets of wisdom.

Quality of life advice

  1. “I would focus on the things that have been good in your life rather than the bad things that happen, because bad things do happen,” Buffett said at Berkshire’s annual meeting Saturday, Morningstar reported. “It can often be a wonderful life even with some bad breaks.”
  2. “Hugely wealthy parents should leave their children enough so they can do anything but not enough that they can do nothing,” Buffett wrote in a letter to shareholders in 2024.
  3. A famous quote that’s often attributed to Buffett is, “It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it.”
  4. “Don’t confuse the cost of living with the standard of living,” Buffett told Alice Schroeder in “The Snowball: Warren Buffett and the Business of Life.”
  5. “If I get tough on myself about philanthropy, I remember what Warren Buffett said to us originally, which is, ‘You’re working on the problems society left behind, and they left them behind for a reason. They are hard, right? So don’t be so tough on yourself,'” longtime friend Melinda French Gates wrote in a memoir.

Career advice

  1. “I have urged that they seek employment in (1) the field and (2) with the kind of people they would select, if they had no need for money,” Buffett wrote in a 2023 letter to shareholders, referring to his talks to university students.”Economic realities, I acknowledge, may interfere with that kind of search,” he said. “Even so, I urge the students never to give up the quest, for when they find that sort of job, they will no longer be ‘working.'”
  2. “Who you associate with is just enormously important,” he reportedly said at the Saturday meeting. “Don’t expect you’ll make every decision right on that. You’re going to have your life progress in the general direction of the people that you work with, that you admire, that become your friends.”
  3. “You want to look for the job in life that you would take if you didn’t need a job. Don’t settle for anything, eventually, that’s less than working for a company you admire or people you admire — the job that if you had no need for the money, it’s still the job that you’d jump out of bed for in the morning,” he said during a 2020 interview.

Business and investment advice

  1. “A simple rule dictates my buying: Be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful,” he said in a 2008 op-ed for The New York Times.
  2. “Price is what you pay. Value is what you get,” Buffett wrote in a 2008 shareholder letter.
  3. “Risk comes from not knowing what you’re doing,” he wrote in “The Essays of Warren Buffett: Lessons for Corporate America” in 2015.
  4. “People have emotions,” he said at Berkshire’s annual meeting over the weekend, “but you’ve got to check them at the door when you invest.”

Coronavirus vaccine killed Pope Francis – Chris Oyakhilome alleges

Published

on April 27, 2025

By Francis Ugwu

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of the Christ Embassy has claimed that Pope Francis died from the effects of taking the coronavirus vaccine.

Oyakhilome didn’t present any evidence to back up his claim.

The cleric made the claim on Saturday amid the burial of the late Catholic pontiff.

Recall that the Vatican had announced on Monday last wek that the 88-year-old pope died of a stroke triggered by a coma and heart failure.

However, while delivering a sermon during a recent church programme, Oyakhilome said the late pope died because he took the coronavirus vaccine.

“While he was trying to encourage the world to take the vaccines, he stated that if Jesus were here, he would have taken the vaccine,” the founder of Christ Embassy said.

“I found that very insulting, and I talked about it. At that time, he was still with the globalists. He believed them and encouraged the world to take the vaccine and he too took the vaccine.

“And I’m stating that the vaccine killed him. They said he had a stroke. Where did the stroke come from? Blood clots.

“And that’s one of the most common causes of death from the vaccine. They will not tell you the truth. That’s what I’m telling you,” he said.

DAILY POST recalls that Oyakhilome had also about five years ago claimed that there was a link between the 5G network, Coronavirus, and the Antichrist.

The pastor then slammed his colleagues for consenting to the closure of churches and the lockdown directives during the COVID-19 outbreak.
