Fetterman Just Torched Newsom for What He Did to Nick Shirey Over Exposing California Fraud
Nick Shirley walked up to a Los Angeles building registered as fifteen separate hospices and found a locked door.
That single image – your tax dollars funding a padlocked shell – is what Gavin Newsom needed to answer for.
Instead, Newsom’s press office posted an AI-generated image implying Shirley was a pedophile – and now a Democratic senator just went on national radio to call it exactly what it is.
Newsom’s Press Office Posted the Smear Themselves
Shirley built his reputation by going where the cameras aren’t supposed to go.
His December investigation into Minnesota’s Somali daycare fraud racked up 138 million views on X.
It was retweeted by Vice President JD Vance and FBI Director Kash Patel.
It triggered federal investigations and door-to-door enforcement raids across Minneapolis.
When Shirley turned his camera on California, he found something even bigger.
In a 40-minute video released this week, Shirley documented ghost hospice networks and sham daycare centers across Los Angeles and San Diego – empty buildings, padlocked gates, and luxury cars parked outside shell offices billing taxpayers millions.
“Minnesota was big but California is even bigger,” Shirley wrote alongside the video. “We uncovered over $170,000,000 in fraud as these fraudsters live in luxury with no consequences.”
The video drew millions of views.
Gavin Newsom’s response was to post an AI-generated image of a creepy man lurking outside a daycare with cameras, captioned: “Hey, can I see your kids?”
The implication was unmistakable.
Shirley didn’t escalate. He posted back: “You do realize I’m trying to help America eliminate fraud and waste? Start working for the people and not against them.”
A Democrat Called It What It Was
Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman went on the All-In Podcast and didn’t mince a single word.
“Governor Newsom put out a disgusting video implying that he’s a pedophile,” Fetterman said. “Why? That’s kind of a smear.”
He didn’t stop there.
“You want to disagree, but to imply that someone in one of the most gross kinds of terms like that – it’s like, hey, shouldn’t we agree, eliminate all the waste?”
Then Fetterman said what no other Democrat has been willing to say out loud.
“Fraud can happen on both sides, but when it’s identified, I don’t care if it’s in a Democratic state. We should all just acknowledge maybe there is a problem here.”
That’s a Democrat from Pennsylvania calling out the man widely considered the party’s 2028 presidential frontrunner – for smearing a 23-year-old journalist who was trying to save taxpayer money.
This Is What Newsom Is Protecting
Shirley’s video isn’t the only camera that’s been inside California’s fraud machine.
CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz identified roughly $3.5 billion in hospice and home health billing in Los Angeles County alone – with 42 providers registered inside a single four-block radius in Van Nuys.
A 2022 California state audit found hospice agencies in Los Angeles County had grown 1,500% since 2010.
In one Van Nuys commercial building – no signage, no visible patients – the state had issued licenses to 112 separate hospices.
Fox News visited those addresses and found no one there.
Shirley’s own footage told a parallel story: California’s Medi-Cal budget has more than doubled since 2022, ballooning from $108 billion to a proposed $222 billion, with no population growth to account for it.
“It just seems like a lot of people are getting rich off the death of old people,” Shirley said on camera.
Gavin Newsom’s response to all of it was a meme calling the man exposing it a child predator.
The Playbook of a Governor With No Answers
This isn’t Newsom’s first move when California’s fraud problem surfaces.
When Dr. Oz released his own street investigation of Van Nuys hospice clusters earlier this year, Newsom didn’t address the fraud.
He filed a civil rights complaint against Oz.
When Shirley’s Minnesota video went viral and prompted federal action, Democrats went silent – or attacked the messenger.
Now Shirley is in California, the evidence is on camera, and Newsom’s entire defense strategy is smear memes and deflection.
Fetterman got it exactly right: this is the 2023 border crisis playbook – deny, deflect, and attack anyone raising the alarm until the disaster becomes impossible to hide.
The people billing your tax dollars for empty buildings and phantom patients are living well in Gavin Newsom’s California.
They were doing it long before Nick Shirley showed up with a camera.
Now Newsom has spent a week trying to destroy the man who found them – and the shells are still registered, the billing is still running, and not one fraudster has faced a single consequence.
