Life is like a tapestry, being woven by God and history on an enchanted loom.  Every bobble of the shuttle has meaning, every thread is important.

We all know that love comes in many forms. We love our children with a love that is the same whether they are babies or as they grow older. We have love in a different form for our relatives, our neighbors, and our friends. We love our pets and grieve for them as we would a family member – which they are part of the family.

Last week, Lucy, who was Melissa’s family’s dog and lived with Michael and Melissa was called to heaven. When the three of them came to visit us, we became very attached to Lucy. She was very aloof, initially, and would follow Melissa, constantly, while in our home. But, after a few trips, she became more comfortable in our home in that while we were watching TV she would come and sit by me and on road trips she would snuggle up next to me.

The special thing about Lucy was her eye contact when she looked at anyone. It was piercing to the point that I wondered – wouldn’t you love to know what she was thinking because the look was such a look of “love.” All of the trips to our home by Lucy were such a special treat in that we lost our last puppy, Beau. After Beau, we decided that we would not have any more puppies because it was such a strong sadness and the required care that is so important that- we felt we didn’t need that responsibility.
