KOMMONSENTSJANE – The Week You Stopped Complaining.

10/13/2025

This is a wonderful article and it fits so many of us folks. As I was reading this, Obama was complaining about President Trump sending troops to Chicago. I didn’t get the jest except he (Obama) was on TV while our President was in the Middle East signing a peace deal between Hamas/Israel which is a monumental deal.

I think his complaining was just envy about the peace deal and he had to grab some “look at me” time.

Obama has to understand that he had 12 years during his time as president and as a senator to fix Chicago and didn’t even try. We have been writing about the murders in Chicago during those years and still are. The articles always came across as a “ho-hum” event. Why was that? The people in Chicago deserve to be able to enjoy their city and walk the streets without being shot.

What if, for one week, you refused to complain? Not just out loud, but even in your own head. No “it’s too hot,” “I’m so tired” or “why is everyone driving so slow?”

Imagine the energy you’d free up if you stopped feeding every irritation that crosses your path.

Complaining feels harmless, but it’s one of the biggest invisible drains on our wellness. Each time we voice discontent, we reinforce it neurologically. The brain strengthens the very pathway we’re trying to escape. Over time, we don’t just have complaints — we become complainers. It’s a mental loop that keeps us stuck in stress mode.

Now picture the opposite. What if you used those same words to notice instead of to judge? “It’s hot, so I’ll drink more water.” “Traffic’s slow, maybe this is a chance to breathe.” “Work is hard today, but I’m capable.”

The events don’t change — your nervous system does. You stop telling your body it’s in danger, and it starts to relax. That alone can lower blood pressure, reduce muscle tension and improve sleep.

The challenge is deceptively simple: seven days, zero complaints. You’ll catch yourself often. That’s the point. Each time you do, pause and reframe.

Replace “I hate this weather” with “This makes me grateful for shade.” Replace “I’m exhausted” with “I need a break — and I’m allowed to take one.”

You’ll begin to notice how often the brain hunts for negativity just to have something to chew on.

By day three, most people start to feel lighter. By day five, conversations shift — fewer gripes, more gratitude. By day seven, you’ll realize how much calmer you feel even when nothing around you has changed.

The real detox isn’t always food or supplements. Sometimes, it’s mental noise.

Try this experiment with your family, coworkers or gym buddies. Post a sign on the fridge or set a reminder on your phone: “No complaints today.”

Keep a small notebook and tally each time you slip — not to judge yourself, but to notice patterns. Morning rush hour? Evening fatigue? Certain people? Awareness is where the shift begins.

Wellness isn’t just movement and nutrition — it’s energy management. And nothing protects your energy faster than mastering your mindset. When you stop narrating life as a constant battle, your body finally believes it’s safe enough to heal, focus and grow stronger.
