The state funeral for the late President Jimmy Carter also served as a reunion of sorts.
All of the former Presidents and President Joe Biden gathered to pay their respects at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
President-elect Donald Trump was seen whispering something to former President Barack Obama, which caused him to chuckle while the pair were sitting next to each other.
Obama and Trump were cordial before the funeral, which caused former CNN host Don Lemon to lose it on his YouTube show.
Lemon fumed that the former President and President-elect were “yukking it up together, chatting and giggling like kids on the playground.”
The former CNN host pointed out that Obama attacked Trump during the 2024 Election for being a threat to democracy before sharing a light-hearted moment with him.
“You have to indicate to the American people that this is not normal . . . grinning with someone that you have called a fascist over the last couple of years and the last months,” Lemon ranted. “That’s not normal. Folks are tired of the behavior being normalized. Civility does not mean befriending people or forgoing your morals and your principles and your character.”
Lemon expects Obama to act like a jerk 100% of the time when he’s around Trump.
The exchange called into question for some Democrats, like Lemon, if Obama really believed what he said about Trump on the campaign trail.
Don Lemon’s rage fest turns its attention to Michelle Obama
Lemon wondered if all the talk about Trump being a fascist and a threat to democracy was just empty campaign rhetoric by Democrats.
“Does he not remember how his entire political party has been calling the man a fascist, an autocrat, a threat to democracy for months, if not years?” Lemon asked. “People could not believe what they were seeing. Had the Democratic Party lied to them? Had Kamala Harris and Joe Biden lied to them? Is this all just a game?”
He claimed that Trump and his supporters had said some nasty things about former First Lady Michelle Obama.
“How could Barack Obama, the man who faced vicious, racist conspiracies for years because of Trump, act so buddy-buddy with him? Does he not remember birtherism?” Lemon fumed. “These are the very same MAGA people who have called and Donald Trump has helped promote, calling Michelle Obama a man.”
Lemon speculated that Obama could have just been doing his job of making nice with Trump but warned that came with a cost.
“Optics like this are things that Democrats have to consider going forward,” Lemon claimed.
Don Lemon may be starting to realize that all of the bluster about Donald Trump being a fascist during the election was campaign rhetoric to fire up the party’s base that none of its leaders actually believed.
And he’s just mad because he drank the Kool-Aid.
