Billionaire investor Bill Ackman, once a prominent supporter of Democratic politicians, publicly slammed the Biden-Harris administration, listing 33 reasons for his loss of confidence in the Democratic Party. His scathing critique, posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), signals a major shift in his political stance and has sparked widespread discussion in both political and business circles.
Ackman, known for his significant financial contributions to Democratic campaigns in the past, made waves earlier this year when he endorsed Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. His support for Trump came as a surprise to many, especially given his history of Democratic donations and his voter registration, which had typically aligned with the party.
Ackman’s shift to endorsing Trump followed an assassination attempt on the former president at a July 2024 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. In his recent post, Ackman clarified that his endorsement of Trump was not driven by personal gain or aspirations for a role in a future administration but rather by his dissatisfaction with the Biden-Harris leadership.
Ackman’s post laid out a comprehensive list of grievances, ranging from economic policies to social issues, that contributed to his loss of faith in the Biden-Harris administration. Among the first concerns he mentioned were the administration’s handling of illegal immigration, inflation, and what he described as the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. Ackman called these issues “catalysts” for his growing disillusionment.
He also criticized Biden’s economic policies, specifically the administration’s push for more stringent energy regulations. According to Ackman, these policies have stifled economic growth, particularly in industries such as fracking. He pointed to attempts to limit or ban fracking as a direct assault on American energy independence, which he believes is crucial for the country’s economic future.
A significant portion of Ackman’s criticism focused on rising crime rates and the administration’s approach to law enforcement. He voiced strong opposition to policies that release violent criminals without bail, citing the increasing threat of shoplifting and its negative impact on small businesses. Ackman argued that decriminalizing certain thefts has led to the destruction of local economies, especially in areas where small businesses are the backbone of the community.
His frustrations extended to social justice initiatives, particularly the administration’s emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) hiring practices. Ackman suggested that these policies are misguided, leading to inefficiencies in business and government. He also took aim at the Biden administration’s stance on LGBT curricula in schools and the promotion of gender-affirming surgeries for minors, expressing concern over the broader cultural implications of such policies.
Ackman’s social critiques did not stop at DEI practices or LGBT policies. He condemned the Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests and riots, as well as the Biden administration’s handling of COVID-19 lockdowns during the early months of the presidency. According to Ackman, these events and policies contributed to a broader decline in American society, eroding public trust in institutions and leadership.
His concerns extended beyond domestic issues. Ackman expressed alarm over the rise of anti-Israel protests on college campuses and the increasing spread of antisemitism in the U.S. He linked these developments to what he sees as a failure of leadership under Biden and Harris, as well as the broader Democratic Party’s inability to address these rising tensions.
Ackman also voiced displeasure with vaccine mandates and what he described as censorship of free speech, particularly concerning social media platforms and public discourse. He argued that the administration’s policies have led to the weaponization of the justice system, with movements such as “Defund the Police” further weakening the country’s ability to maintain law and order.
In addition to his domestic grievances, Ackman criticized the Biden-Harris administration’s environmental policies. He referred to government subsidies for what he described as “insufficient products” and expressed concern over federal mandates to phase out gas-powered cars and stoves. According to Ackman, these initiatives are impractical and burden businesses and consumers without providing adequate alternatives.
On the international stage, Ackman accused the administration of emboldening America’s foreign adversaries. He suggested that the Biden-Harris approach to foreign policy has weakened the U.S. standing globally, leaving the country vulnerable in critical areas such as energy and defense.
A particularly scathing part of Ackman’s post focused on Vice President Kamala Harris. He criticized the process by which Harris was selected as Biden’s running mate, accusing the Democratic Party of using “a backroom process by undisclosed party leaders” to choose her for the role. Ackman argued that voters should have had a say in whether to replace Biden on the 2024 ballot, especially given concerns about Biden’s leadership and health.
Ackman went on to call Harris an “inferior candidate,” suggesting that her presence on the ticket has further eroded public trust in the Democratic Party. He also raised concerns about the integrity of the electoral process, particularly regarding laws that prevent the implementation of voter ID requirements, which he believes would restore confidence in the accuracy of the nation’s voting system.
