Fact Check: Kamala Harris Promotes Two Misleading Claims

Knewz.com has fact-checked two recent statements from Vice President Kamala Harris regarding the tax rate of wealthy individuals as well as the loss of manufacturing jobs during Donald Trump’s time in office.
During an interview on MSNBC, Harris stated that Trump oversaw a loss of 200,000 manufacturing jobs “even before the pandemic.” She also stated that wealthy Americans pay lower tax rates than everyday workers.
Both statements are misleading. Before the pandemic, Trump oversaw a gain of 400,000 manufacturing jobs. However, by the end of Trump’s presidency, there were 200,000 manufacturing jobs lost. Harris falsely suggested these jobs were lost prior to the pandemic.
When excluding unrealized capital gains, the effective tax rate of the top 400 taxpayers in the U.S. is higher than middle-class Americans. By failing to identify this information, Harris’ statements were false and misleading.
