A recent Rasmussen Reports poll reveals that a majority of U.S. voters believe that news reporters are attempting to assist Vice President Kamala Harris in her bid for the White House over former President Donald Trump in the upcoming November presidential election. According to the survey, 50 percent of likely voters expect most reporters to favor Harris, while only 14 percent think they will support Trump. About a quarter of respondents (26 percent) believe that most reporters will offer unbiased coverage, while 10 percent remain unsure.

The poll highlights a significant perception among voters that media bias is influencing political coverage. Among Republicans, 66 percent anticipate that most reporters will try to help Harris, compared to 34 percent of Democrats and 50 percent of unaffiliated voters who share this expectation. On the other hand, 38 percent of Democrats believe that most reporters will provide unbiased coverage, a sentiment that only 14 percent of Republicans and 26 percent of unaffiliated voters agree with.

The survey further indicates that 60 percent of respondents think most reporters try to help their preferred candidate during political campaigns, a notable increase from 51 percent during the 2020 election cycle. Conversely, 28 percent of those surveyed disagree, believing that most reporters are unbiased, while 12 percent remain unsure.

Interestingly, the perception of media bias varies significantly across political affiliations. Democrats (44 percent) are more likely than Republicans (16 percent) and unaffiliated voters (23 percent) to believe that reporters aim to offer unbiased campaign coverage. However, a majority of Republicans (74 percent), unaffiliated voters (64 percent), and even a significant portion of Democrats (45 percent) think that reporters are advocating for the candidate they favor.

The poll also reveals that a majority of voters believe Harris has received the most favorable treatment from the media thus far. Nearly six in ten (57 percent) of respondents say that Harris has been treated the best by the media, compared to 29 percent who believe the media has favored Trump. Thirteen percent of voters are undecided on this issue.
