New CNN Poll: Biden a failure, we want Trump! – Rants of Izzo

Recent polling data released by SSRI for CNN suggests that President Joe Biden’s prospects for reelection in 2024 are facing significant hurdles, with 45th President Donald Trump gaining traction by contrasting his first-term achievements with Biden’s perceived missteps. The poll, conducted from April 18-23, surveyed 1,212 likely voters and has a margin of error of 3.4 percent, reflecting a growing disillusionment with Biden’s presidency.
Comparing Trump and Biden
The poll results reveal stark differences in public perception between Trump and Biden. A substantial 55 percent of respondents consider Trump’s presidency successful, while only 44 percent deem it a failure. In contrast, only 39 percent of those surveyed view Biden’s term as successful, with 61 percent judging it a failure. This significant disparity is a troubling sign for the Biden campaign as the 2024 election cycle ramps up.
General Election Outlook
Looking ahead to the general election, the data shows a distinct advantage for Trump. When asked who they would support in a head-to-head race, 49 percent of respondents indicated they would vote for Trump, compared to 43 percent for Biden. Additionally, eight percent of those surveyed expressed uncertainty about whom they would support.
The outlook becomes even more challenging for Biden when considering a five-way race that includes independent candidates. In this scenario, Trump leads with 42 percent support, Biden follows with 33 percent, independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. garners 16 percent, Cornel West of the Green Party receives four percent, and Jill Stein of the Green Party captures three percent. This broad distribution of support underscores the erosion of Biden’s base and raises questions about his ability to unify a divided electorate.
Biden’s Troubling Approval Ratings
The poll’s results are consistent with other recent data indicating that Biden is struggling to maintain popular support. According to a separate Gallup poll, Biden has the lowest approval rating of any president in the past 70 years during their 13th quarter in office. At this point in his presidency, only 38.7 percent of Americans approve of his performance. By comparison, Trump had a 46.8 percent approval rating at the same stage, and even historically low-rated presidents like George H. W. Bush managed to maintain a higher approval rating.
Factors Contributing to Biden’s Decline
Several factors contribute to Biden’s declining popularity. The American public is increasingly concerned about high inflation, perceived lack of leadership in handling international conflicts, and a seemingly uncontrolled southern border. These issues have led to a growing perception that Biden’s policies are out of touch with the needs of everyday Americans.
Moreover, some voters are concerned about the actions of Democratic prosecutors, whom they view as using the legal system for political purposes. These concerns, combined with widespread dissatisfaction with the administration’s economic policies, have created a challenging landscape for Biden’s reelection efforts.
Looking Ahead
As the 2024 election cycle progresses, Biden’s campaign must find ways to address these concerns and rebuild voter confidence. However, the poll results suggest that Trump’s message of restoring “America First” policies resonates with a growing number of Americans, potentially setting the stage for a competitive election in November 2024. Whether Biden can turn the tide or Trump can capitalize on his momentum remains to be seen, but the early indicators suggest a difficult road ahead for the incumbent president.
