Yes, home made bread was a staple in our home which was a blessing. I can assure you a crust of the bread was never left after consumption. A new fact in today’s world is we now have in our HEB STORES – a bread that is called BARE BREAD which has no crust.
I would call this “party bread.”
We now refer to all of the GOOD OLD DAYS’ home made items – as blessings. We still buy kolaches/bread from our La Grange – TX – bakery.
Thanks for sharing.

My mother Josephine, whose cooking skills were magical, understood the simple elegance of less is more.
Though certainly not the inventor, she was more of what I would call a ‘bread evangelist’. Her treatment of this simple scrumptious delight consisted of a thick crusty slice of italian or french bread, delecately lathered in butter and/or olive oil, broiled to 3-minute golden perfection.
As children we savored every warm, crunchy, oily bite.
May it and her spirit abide forever.
