As we approach Memorial Day, we are all clearly aware of the challenges we face under this current kakistocracy. There is no need to rehash the simultaneous attacks we face on multiple fronts. Rather, today I’d like to share a bit of a different perspective.

If one were to believe to the mainstream media, you’d think the godless left, with all their evil schemes, outnumber us three to one. Of course, this is designed to discourage patriotic Americans. They expect us to give up in hopelessness. I firmly believe that the exact opposite is true; patriot Americans (both parties) have a far greater majority. We must not allow their propaganda to infiltrate our thoughts and thwart our forward progress. Besides, even if they did have a majority, they are discounting the most important Being in the whole equation of eternity. Once again, let’s remember I Kings 18. Elijah stood alone against Ahab, Jezebel, 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah. Except, just as we are today, Elijah was not alone. He knew exactly Who was with him. I really love the part where Elijah begins to taunt the enemy. At noon, he even began shouting his taunts. Elijah was bold because he knew Who he served. This is a great reminder for us. We need not back down when we face the proponents of evil. We should remind ourselves when dealing with godless people that they are fools, by Biblical definition – fools. My daughter shared a quote, she has used on several occasions, with me, “I refuse to engage in a battle of wits an unarmed opponent”. I must say I had a good chuckle from this but in spiritual discussions there is a truth to be had here. The godless are unarmed when dealing with Godly thoughts and principles. From Joshua 1:9, “Be strong and of a good courage” is a commandment and not a request because God is God and all He requires of us is our trust.

Memorial Day: a day like no other; yet I hope we have the same mindset of thankfulness each and every day. We should thank God daily for the selfless acts of those who have helped us remain a free people. What we face today has several similarities to another very dark period in our nation’s history. One of unequaled strife. A great deal of the conflict dealt with people who had complete control, including life and death, over the lives of others. During this period, President Lincoln was ridiculed and maligned in the press, he had strong opposition within his own party and vitriol spewed from the opposition party. Abraham Lincoln was robbed of a second term in office. The nation continued to suffer greatly because the one committed to a swift reconciliation was taken from us. There are further commonalities with our current circumstance, but this will suffice for the purpose here. God has blessed us by raising up just the right leader in our most critical times. On November 19, 1863, President Lincoln, in less than three minutes, shared some of the most profound thoughts, not just in our history, but in all of human history. May we all be blessed, encouraged and filled with renewed strength and resolve as we read his words of exhortation.

“Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate—we can not consecrate—we can not hallow—this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

II Chronicles 7:14 Lord, Thank you for those who have dedicated their lives to protect our freedom. There are no words to express….. Help us in our resolve to honor them by helping to preserve the very freedom they have preserved for us. Lead us, guide us, use us where and as You will. You have blessed us beyond measure. Let us teach our children the values and principles upon which our nation is founded. Not because it is our nation, but, because You led our founders in its establishment. Help us to act with courage and in boldness in defense of this great experiment – that we can look to You and Your Word as the foundation for our Constitution. Thank you for the blessing and privilege of living here. In Jesus name. Amen
