Former software engineer Mike Wacker wrote a Medium article explaining just that. He was terminated by Google for his “dangerous” opinions that made the workplace “unsafe” for others. Wacker describes what happened to a fellow Republican employee when he brought up Jordan Peterson, a Toronto professor who stood up against the Canadian government when they made it illegal to refer to someone as a gender they did not identify as. All this employee did was say nice things about Jordan Peterson and they received this response from a higher-up:

“One Googler raised a concern that you that you appeared to be promoting and defending Jordan Peterson’s comments about transgender pronouns, and this made them feel unsafe at work.”
