KOMMONSENTSJANE – The Left Must Stop Conflating Conservatism With Racism. The Right Must Not Defend Something Just Because The Left Attacks It.

The Left all cried “racist.”

racism

But, who are the racists:

The left started and were members of the KKK.
The left started and did not want to release the slaves.
The left are the ones who use the race card and scream “racist” the loudest.
The left do not adhere to the Constitution or its laws.

The things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment TV, and Miss Black America.

What would happen if whites had a United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment TV, or Miss White America – do you suppose anyone would notice?

At this stage, I don’t think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers.

The Left Must Stop Conflating Conservatism With Racism. The Right Must Not Defend Something Just Because The Left Attacks It.

On Sunday, Adam Serwer of The Atlantic wrote a piece about Rep. Steve King (R-IA), who recently did an interview with The New York Times in which he suggested that there was nothing wrong with the phrases “white supremacy” and “white nationalism.” Serwer attempts to smear broad swaths of conservative policy with King’s racism. Here’s what he writes:

The most devastating consequences of the Trump presidency have been policy decisions: his attempts to expel undocumented immigrants who pose no threat to public safety, and their American family members; his elevation of an ostentatious partisan to the Supreme Court; his implementation of a policy of child abuse as a deterrent to illegal immigration; his abandonment of Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria; his Justice Department’s green-lighting of police abuses; his attempts to weaken the political power of minorities targeted by his policies; and other acts of state violence and disapproval against religious and ethnic minorities too numerous to name. But all of them follow the underlying logic of Trump’s response to Charlottesville…that extremism in pursuit of white power is no vice, and defending the rights of those who threaten that power is no virtue.

This is nuts. Serwer here links illegal immigration policy, Trumpian mishandling of the Puerto Rican hurricane (much of the mishandling was due to Puerto Rican governmental failures), and most absurdly, the appointment of Justice Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court with white supremacy.

Herein lies the problem: the Right and the Left have different definitions of racism. Many thoughtleaders on the Left obviously believe that racism is coincident with conservative policy – that conservative takes on illegal immigration and judicial interpretation must be spurred by white supremacy.

Thoughtleaders on the Right believe that racism is about judging people solely based on race. This, by the way, is the actual definition of racism. The Left does not embrace this definition – they are happy to judge people on the basis of race, from the ideology of intersectionality to policies like affirmative action. The traditional definition of racism means that we must judge policies and statements on the basis of those policies and statements:

a policy or statement may be driven by racism, or it may not be. A statement may rationally be indicative of racism, or it may not be. You can’t default to a policy or statement being racist just because you disagree with it.

This means that those on the Right are often skeptical about Leftist claims of racism – after all, the Left has a nasty habit of conflating charges of racism with simple conservatism. Those on the Right aren’t generally willing to credit those on the Left with good faith anti-racism – nor, in many cases, should they.

Here’s the problem for the Left, then: the Left tends to smear conservatives with charges of racism because they don’t like conservatism.

Here’s the problem for the Right: the Right sometimes overreacts to these attacks by granting statements open to differential interpretation the benefit of the doubt until clear evidence of racism rears its ugly head. I’ve been as guilty of this as anyone; Steve King is a prime example.

So, here’s what we can do better: the Left can stop maligning everyone it doesn’t like as racist, and the Right can be more willing to listen to the Left’s good faith charges of racism. But that’s simply not going to happen so long as the Left continues to smear conservatism itself as racism – particularly when the Right has shown itself significantly more willing to excise racism from its midst than the Left has.

The following is as good a definition as I have read about liberalism.

KOMMONSENTSJANE – THE INHERENT RACISM OF LIBERALISM.

A NATION OF well informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the ignorance that tyranny begins.

The inherent racism of liberalism

By Sylvia Thompson

June 21, 2013

Congressman Elbert Guillory has eloquently told the American people why he is leaving the Democratic Party. As many now know, Elbert Guillory is a black politician from Louisiana, and I give kudos, cheers, and hurrahs to him. I am always heartened by a black person awakening to the reality that the Democratic Party stands for liberalism, and liberalism at its core, is racist.

Progressivism, liberalism, socialism, communism have one thing in common, as I interpret them. They all require that some designated human or group of
humans maintains power over other humans. To maintain power (and often wealth), the drivers of these ideologies must keep the masses that they manipulate under control. There must be a permanent underclass of people enabling the wealth and power of those who would be their “saviors.” Those who would provide for the needs that a balanced human being should provide for himself.

This situation is no different in my view from the slavery that my ancestors (and many other groups throughout human history) experienced. It can even be argued that it is worse. Southern slave owners shackled bodies; these ideologies shackle the soul.

What touches me deeply, as a black person, is the realization that blacks in America are perfect fodder for manipulation by those who adhere to liberalism. Several centuries of conditioning to think that one must be cared for to survive makes for an easy target. Consequently, liberal Democrats (black and white) have used blacks perniciously.

As an adult, I have been able to assess my experience in America with a degree of maturity. I have experienced helpful revelations and come to a few conclusions, all of which position me diametrically opposed to any ideology that diminishes the humanity in human beings.

When I was growing up in Texas under legal segregation, my environment included all the levels of the black experience. In addition to the profane, the assorted criminal types, were the professionals. My doctor; the hospital where my mother delivered my younger siblings; my dentist (a high-school friend of my mother); my high-school principal, administrators, and teachers; and pretty much everything else was black and black owned. My parents were high-school educated and not of the same economic status as the professional blacks around us, but because those professionals were there, as role models for what could be, many of my generation and I were not likely to consider ourselves victims. And liberalism thrives on victims.

In the past several decades, black communities have become laboratories for liberal Democrat experiments in churning out victims. First they remove all God-given moral strictures by infiltrating the once-stalwart black church and turning the heads of pastors, then they throw in a convenient Planned Parenthood abortion facility to take care of the consequences of the rampant immoral behavior. They then install liberal blacks in political leadership of the communities to keep the masses in check. The resulting chaos and suffering are rife throughout Democrat-controlled areas in this nation. And blacks suffer the most, given our percentage of the population.

What has become of blacks in America under the thumb of liberalism is a travesty beyond calculation. Because unlike the slave masters of centuries ago, who shackled bodies that could thrive after the shackles were removed, liberalism shackles the mind and the soul, which is a lot more difficult to reclaim. And for that reason, I loathe liberalism and all of its companion ideologies. I am also averse to acceptance of anything that adherents to liberalism may have to offer. That includes Barack Obama.
