What Pro Athletes Don’t Understand about Sacrifice
Are the latest national anthem protests in the NFL about unity, or are they about division?
That’s the question Fox News contributor Marine Sergeant (retired) Johnny Joey Jones talks about with host Brian Kilmeade in this compelling clip discussing the values of players acting in solidarity with former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick — who began refusing to stand during the singing of his games’ national anthem a year ago.
Marine veteran Jones — who lost both legs trying to defuse a bomb in Afghanistan — has a unique perspective, in that not only has he spoken personally with Kaepernick, he’s worked with NFL teams like the Cincinnati Bengals and the Baltimore Ravens on values education in areas like teamwork and leadership.
After talking with players on both these teams, Jones has advice to offer for those who are trying to come to terms with the league-wide protests that are now taking place. In particular, Jones contrasts the teams that locked arms in unison with one another versus those where some players stood on one knee this past Sunday.
Jones fought overseas to defend the Constitutional rights of all U.S. citizens to peacefully protest, but he also says the American flag stands for the value and strength of unity.
Watch this clip, and see how his admirable arguments show he’s been able to rise above formidable adversity that goes beyond anything Colin Kaepernick has ever experienced.
The fact is that Kaepernick started this ball rolling for his girlfriend who is a muslim – who dared him to do this for her and prove his love – and once he got into the muck – he hasn’t been able to climb out of the quick sand.
