KOMMONSENTSJANE – MERYL STREEP BLOWBACK

Mixed Martial Arts fighters are hitting back at Meryl Streep for her comments at the Golden Globe awards, Heat Street reports.
Streep, while taking jabs at President-elect Trump, also said: “Hollywood is crawling with foreigners and if you kick them all out all you have to watch is football and Mixed Martial Arts. And those are not arts.”

UFC veteran Josh Barnett posted an open letter to Street on his Facebook page.
“Well Meryl, it’s nice to see that with your nose so high in the air we know your glasses will always stay right on your face so you’d be able to read your speeches to us implying that not only is Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) lowbrow, but that it’s also apparently without ‘foreigners,'” he wrote.
“Your glib smile and proclamation that MMA is ‘not the arts’ would also lend a viewer the idea that you think that you’re better than us so called “artists…”

Piers Morgan: Meryl Streep Once Hailed ‘Child-Rapist’ Polanski
Monday, 09 Jan 2017 03:26 PM
Former CNN host Piers Morgan says Meryl Streep’s “hypocritical” putdown of President-elect Donald Trump at Sunday’s Golden Globes awards was “easily the worst performance” of her career.

“How much more effective would it have been had the most powerful woman in Hollywood called for unity not division, demanded a stop to all the teeth-gnashing and wailing over the election result, and urged Donald Trump in his inauguration speech to preach tolerance, fairness and equality?” Morgan wrote in a column for London’s Daily Mail.
“That would have been a truly courageous and admirable thing to do. Instead, Meryl Streep poured another 100 gallons of oil onto an already inflamed toxic fire … Meryl, I still love you dearly, but you had a chance to bring your country together last night and you blew it.”
Streep, as she accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award, at the glitzy event, lashed into Trump for his alleged mocking of a disabled New York Times reporter and called on Hollywood to double down in its support of a free press.

Morgan singled out what he said was an example of the Oscar-winning actress'”shocking hypocrisy.”
“What about the 2003 Oscars when she leaped to her feet and gave child rapist Roman Polanski a standing ovation after he was announced as winner of Best Director for ‘The Pianist?”’ said Morgan, referring to the director’s plea to a statuary rape charge.
