Arpaio: Years long investigation proves Obama’s birth certificate is forgery
*************************
PHOENIX — Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced Thursday that a multiyear investigation into President Barack Obama’s birth certificate shows the document is a forgery.
In a press conference, Arpaio said the entire point of the investigation was to clear Obama’s name after the Surprise Tea Party asked him to look into the birth certificate in 2011.
“It didn’t work out that way,” he said, adding that he plans to turn the investigation over to the federal government.
“Maybe some members of Congress will hold some hearings open to the public regarding this matter,” he said. “If you can hold hearings on underinflated footballs, why can’t you hold one on this? Just look at it.”
Investigator Mike Zullo showed a video that claimed to point out nine areas on the birth certificate that proved it was a forgery.
The video primarily focused on the date stamps on the lower-left portion of the birth certificate, among other things. Zullo said the angle of the hand-stamped dates was identical to that of the 1995 birth certificate of Johanna Ah’Nee, the alleged template for Obama’s document.
Zullo said two experts agreed that several parts of Ah’Nee’s birth certificate were used to forge Obama’s.
“This carries federal penalties,” Zullo said.
Zullo said later in the press conference that there were also concerns with the security paper Hawaii uses, the raised seal on the document and the fact that it appears to be a computer document that has been printed and scanned at least one time.
“The document is unreliable and is inauthentic,” he said.
The request for Arpaio’s investigation stemmed from claims that Obama was not born in the United States, but Kenya. If it were true, Obama would have been ineligible to serve as president.
During Thursday’s press conference, Arpaio said he was merely investigating what people claimed was a fraudulent document, not the claims of where Obama was born.
“To this time and to this day, I stated I did not care where the president was born. It had nothing to do with that,” he said, adding that anyone who looks into the issue is “maligned, mislabeled and criticized” both in the media and online.
Zullo said officials have been unable to track Obama’s birth certificate in the past or were unclear of where it was being stored. He said that creates a lot of mystery that may never be solved.
“We have no idea what was on that birth certificate. We have no idea if there was a birth certificate. We have no idea if someone just wrote something down through some nice legal maneuvering created a birth event.
“We don’t know where Mr. Obama was born … We don’t know if he’s a natural-born citizen or not.”
Arpaio went as far as to send a deputy and member of his volunteer posse to Hawaii to talk to officials. He became one of the nation’s leading voices on the debunked controversy over Obama’s birthplace.
The push to look into his birth certificate, later termed the birther theory, was backed by President-elect Donald Trump, who praised Arpaio’s efforts.
He took those comments back in September and said Obama was born in the U.S.
Arpaio was voted out of office in the November general election. He has claimed that an ongoing criminal contempt of court case against him is a last-ditch attempt by the Obama administration to take him down.
