An Open Letter to Millennials

I have two words for you: Grow up. Let me explain:
I, myself, am considered a millennial, because I was born in 1993. It is almost an embarrassment to even admit that I am included in this generation. I say this, because just the word “Millennial” will put a small cringe on my face, with a metallic taste in my mouth.
So why would I have such a dislike for my own generation? I am ashamed to be a millennial because of the negativity that comes along with it.
My generation has become one of self entitlement. We grew up receiving trophies simply for participating, regardless of how we did. This made us feel like we are always owed something, just for showing up. We think that we deserve a raise, simply because we showed up in uniform. There is no sense in pride of our work, and no urgency to attempt to better ourselves. This is because we think that if we wait long enough, it will be handed to us. We need to respect people in authority and work our way up.
In today’s society, college aged kids are crying, literally crying, because the candidate they voted for did not win. Their classes were cancelled and coloring books were handed out to assist in coping with the result.
That is ridiculous!! Man up. Grow up. Be an adult!
Five things I want you to remember:
1.Nobody owes you anything
2.You reap what you sow; hard work will pay off
3.Stop crying when you don’t get your way
4.You are not a fragile, little snowflake
5.If you want respect, give it
Sincerely,
A Fed Up Millennial
