Uh Oh: Clinton Debate Guest Mark Cuban Has A History Of Racially Insensitive Comments–Will She Denounce?

Posted on September 27, 2016 by tom

It looks like Hillary Clinton’s efforts to rattle Donald Trump ahead of Monday’s debate may be blowing up in her face. As it turns out Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, vocal critic of Donald Trump, and Hillary Clinton’s invited guest to Monday’s debate at Hofstra University, has been accused of making comments that many consider to be racially insensitive toward African Americans.

Cuban’s controversial remarks came in 2014 when the eccentric billionaire defended Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling shortly after the National Basketball League banned Sterling for life for making racist comments. Cuban maintained that although he believed Sterling’s comments were racist, the NBA’s ban of Sterling was a slippery slope.

“I mean, we’re all prejudiced in one way or another,” Cuban said in an interview. “If I see a black kid in a hoodie and it’s late at night, I’m walking to the other side of the street. And if on that side of the street there’s a guy that has tattoos all over his face — white guy, bald head, tattoos everywhere — I’m walking back to the other side of the street. And the list goes on of stereotypes we all live up to and are fearful of.”

Cuban’s comments, which many considered to be playing on racial stereotypes, caused a considerable amount of outrage.
After making his remarks, the Shark Tank star actually apologized to the family of Trayvon Martin. In a now deleted tweet from May 22, 2014, Cuban wrote “In hindsight I should have used different examples. I didn’t consider the Trayvon Martin family, and I apologize to them for that.”

Should Hillary Clinton  have reconsidered Mr. Cuban’s invitation?
