KOMMONSENTSJANE – IN MEMORY OF CHARLINE DAUPHIN

In memory of a friend:

Charline Dauphin and her husband, Sidney – his nickname was Chief, were dear friends of my husband’s brother and wife, Herbert and Mary Muckleroy.  We witnessed both, Chief and Charline, of their goodness in their lives through this family friend for many years. Charline and her husband were both full of life, energy and positiveness.  Civic, social and community involvement were their greatest loves and this continued after Chief’s death.

Charline took pride in being immaculately dressed and manicured.  Her charm, her graciousness and her style were often imitated but never duplicated.  She was a grand lady with enviable class and when necessary – stood her ground –  until her death.  She always loved socializing or being around people she loved.  She struggled with poor health in her later  years but she never let that get in the way of socializing or being around people she loved.

Charline shined as a very bright star on earth and now that star will beam upon earth from her new home in Heaven.

Their attitude and motto – live life to the fullest – is an inspiration to all of us who knew Charline and Chief.

The generous Southeast Texas philanthropist Charline Dauphin, who gave millions to hospitals and schools, died Friday, close friend Jim Willis said.

Dauphin, 86, was preceded in death by her husband Sidney “Chief” Dauphin. Charline is survived by her daughter, Robin, and her sister, Sandra, and other family members.

Dauphin attended Kilgore College.

The Dauphins, from Silsbee, founded Texas Home Health to provide care to home bound patients and regularly gave large sums to charitable causes.

When the Dauphins sold Texas Home Health, the business had more than 12,000 employees and 30 offices across the state.

Charline Dauphin served as a Member of the Development Board at University of Texas Medical Branch and a Member of The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center’s Board of Visitors.

Their names adorn a cancer screening center at Memorial Herman Baptist Hospital, the athletic complex at Lamar University, and a locker room at Baylor University for the school’s alumni who play professional sports, among others.

Dauphin in 2011 donated $2 million toward Lamar’s $100 million Investing in the Future campaign in honor of Sidney Dauphin.

Dauphin was also known as a major supporter of the Christus Stehlin Foundation for Cancer Research in Houston.

She contributed to the Charline and Sidney “Chief” Dauphin Cancer Screening and Prevention Center at Beaumont’s Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital, which offers patients access to genetic counseling and screening.

She supported IEA-Inspire, Encourage Achieve/Ben’s Kids and Texas A&M University-Commerce.

She has contributed as well to the Silsbee Independent School District, funding the “Chief” Dauphin Athletic Field House in memory of her husband, who died in 2000.

Visitation is scheduled for 5 p.m., Sunday at Broussard’s Mortuary in Silsbee, Willis said. Dauphin’s funeral will be at 10 a.m., Monday at the mortuary, 490 Cemetery Road.

My apologies if some of the  gifts are duplicated; but, with their substantial gifts – it was hard to sort out the millions that were donated.

Farewell to a lovely, charming lady and gentle man who worked hard and played hard and in the end showed the world that  you can start out with humble beginnings and be successful.
