Victims of psychological or physical abuse are changed to fear the worst even if no present threat is evident. As a victim of multiple thefts from criminal trespassing, when anything is missing, I immediately fear that it has been stolen. I’m so relieved to find the missing object and know that it was not stolen while I was away from my home. As a victim, I’ve been conditioned to fear the worst.
