The discussion was about the Declaration of Independence and having children in the public schools recite it once a day to better understand the history of our country. Norton described it as “racist.” How sad! Does this sound racist?
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
It seems to me Louisiana lawmaker Barbara Norton (D-Shreveport) needs to learn more history before she became a lawmaker. It seems that Thomas Jefferson’s drafted 1777 statue’s primary concern was the “natural right” of people to express their opinions without interference or retribution by civil or ecclesiastical authorities. For this reason, he begins the statue with the statement, “Almighty God hath created the mind free.” Thus, he wrote:
“To suffer the civil magistrate to intrude his powers into the field of opinion and to restrain the profession or propagation of principles on supposition of their ill tendency is a dangerous fallacy…”Yet, for decades, we have observed an ever increasing implementation of this fallacy by the courts under the guise of anti-discrimination laws.
“Truth is great, and will prevail if left to herself, that she is the proper and sufficient antagonist to error, and has nothing to fear from the conflict, unless by human interposition disarmed of her natural weapons free argument and debate, errors ceasing to be dangerous when it is permitted freely to contradict them.”
Norton gives the impression by her statement about “slavery” that she was present during those times. It is not possible, so why is she reliving a past which she has no realistic knowledge. Does Norton realize that some of the owners of slaves were black? It sounds like a lot of hate was going on during the discussion.
Dr. James Manning is asking the white people to stop being afraid of talking about race and slavery to the black people. We must get past thinking in terms of color and stop walking around this subject. None of the people living in America today had anything to do with slavery. As he stated, we must put the facts on the table and encourage the black people to be a responsible part of society and stop playing the victim and wearing this badge on their sleeve.
It’s the left that keeps poking their fingers into the eyes of traditionally minded people. Then, when traditionalists have had enough and they stand up for their opinions, the left runs to the government and cries discrimination.
As far as I am concerned, Norton has cried “wolf” once too often; but, if she stops hollering, she stops gettin’. She needs to step down as as a state representative because she has failed to uphold the laws of the land; and, in fact, is trying to tear them down. Why isn’t she more worried about jobs for her constituents?
