It’s time to unite, and together we will Make America Great Again!
These simple words are not mere aspiration, nostalgia or a slogan, but a voluntary commitment to be responsible for ourselves, to our families and to our neighbors.
Freedom can only be preserved through eternal vigilance, and those who truly understand liberty must choose to accept the duty to defend it. Ultimately, we the people are responsible for taking back our country – promoting freedom, peace and prosperity – to leave a better future for the next generation.
This campaign season has shown that the American people are ready to step up and demand real hope and real change. We will heal, inspire and revive. We will defeat the Washington cartel and unleash the American dream. We will restore the promise of our country and prosper with a new American century.
This past week, we saw the end to the divisive cycle inherent to our nominating process. Primaries can be mean, tough, and hard. Conventions can seem opaque, obscure and unfair. Running for President of the United States is not for the weak or the timid, and to those who ran and deserve our respect, we solute you, your families, and your staff and supporters.
As Mr. Trump said, Senator Cruz is a smart, tough competitor with a bright future ahead of him. Together we share a common resolve to continue the fight for liberty for ourselves and our posterity. While it has been an exciting, high energy yet at times contentious effort to secure the nomination, now we must help unite our party to take back our country and make America great again.
While there is a time and place for rhetorical hostilities inherent in our system, that time has now passed within the Republican party. Principled resistance is admirable, but we must all seek how best to compromise politically without compromising our principles. While some promote personal agendas, we as Republicans face a new set of challenges – particularly opposing the failed, flawed and corrupt socialist agenda of the Democrats who are out of touch with the American people. Only together can we effectively compete to put our country back on track to winning again.
However, for us to truly win this November, it won’t just be at the top of the ticket, but must include down-ballot victories for Republicans running in federal, state and local races.
That’s why it’s important we take the first step to work together with our allies. As Reagan famously said, our 80% friend is not our 20% enemy. As Lincoln, inspired by our Biblical heritage put it, a house divided cannot stand. The real and lasting victories are those of peace, and not war.
By collaborating together, we will reform our broken tax code, make great trade deals and enforce our immigration laws. We will promote jobs and opportunity and always put America first. We will respect our Constitution and the entire Bill of Rights, including States’ powers and the people’s rights, and protect our Judeo-Christian heritage from big government coercion.
We will create an environment where small business and entrepreneurs can compete, thrive and survive and restrain the influence of lobbyists and special interests abusing our system. We will repeal Obamacare and the individual mandate and replace it with a system that makes healthcare affordable, encourages competition and empowers the states. While this common sense agenda has not yet been achieved, we can and we will if we stand united to win.
As we approach next week’s State Convention, let us do so humbly, without unwarranted contentiousness or competition and forever guard against faction, as advised by our Founders. A reunion of sorts, let us learn new ways to work together to achieve our common goals. Collaboration is inherently win-win, so let’s give credit where it is due, and learn from the strengths of our friends.
Supporters of our great State’s Senator did so with passion, commitment and hard work – and they worked smart, learning the rules and strategies to be more effective working together, inside the system, than working outside, apart. It is an emotional time for many in our party, and we must take the time to heal, and to pray, for many have sacrificed much to pursue goals aligned with our values.
Likewise, our movement has added additional anti-establishment activists, and with over 10 million votes, given voice to the Silent Majority of regular hard-working Americans. If we can now begin to work with our fellow grassroots, we can rebalance the forces inside the GOP and forge a consensus of competent leaders capable of winning from the bottom up.
This opportunity to engage at the State Convention is one where we can learn the inner workings of our party’s processes and vote for fair, transparent rules aligned with the will of voters. We can get to know party leaders and vote for those who share our values. We can explore the complexity of various policies and vote for pragmatic planks on our platform. While principled, contrarian voices must be heard to strengthen our resolve and refine our ideology, they should not foster division, disillusionment or restrain advancement of our common agenda forward.
Now, as we move towards the general election, we as Republicans have an unprecedented opportunity to realize the largest turnout of our base in modern history, grow our party by bringing in new voters, and redraw the electoral map for Republicans to win in traditional Democrat strongholds. We can attract broad coalitions and unite diversity through the common cause of individual freedom and responsibility. As outsiders, we have achieved much – but it is not over yet, and we must be willing to work with a broad coalition if we are to continue our record of success.
Please stay involved at the local level – civic involvement is paramount for a proper balance between our democratic ideals and constitutional republican heritage. While we have our differences there is much more in common that binds us.
Only together we can unite to win and lead conservatively. Together we will take our country back and Make America Great Again!
