KOMMONSENTSJANE – REFUGEE SCREENING BILL

John Cornyn’s The Lone Start Weekly

This week Senate Democrats blocked the Senate Plan considering the American SAFE Act, a bipartisan bill that passed the House of Representatives in response to the growing concern of Texans and Americans about our refugee screening system.

The threat posed by individuals who are eager to import terror to American soil is not a hypothetical one.  Earlier this year, an Iraqi man who entered the U.S. as a refugee was charged with providing material support to ISIS, just last week.  It was reported that his plan included setting off bombs at two popular malls in Houston.  The stakes are too high to wait until it’s too later to act on potential vulnerabilities in our refugee screening system.

We shouldn’t close the door on refugees or reverse America’s traditions of welcoming those fleeing violence or religious persecution. But we must adapt and enhance our refugee screening program to protect innocent lives from potential threats here at home.
