By the way, who sets the rules in texting – get over it – just be glad you got your message so you could hook up to have a glass of wine or an ice cream cone! Quit trying to be a controller of the universe!

Study Proves Only Jerks End Their Texts With a Period. (I like an ending.!? Grow up and quit carrying your heart on your sleeves and quit reading something into the message that is not there! By using a period at the end of any word means that you intended to be mean – give me a break……)

What if you texted a friend asking if they wanted to get drinks after work, and they responded, “sorry, i’m busy.” Now, imagine instead they responded, “sorry, i’m busy!” That exclamation point, a simple one-key change, makes a huge difference in determining whether your friend’s being a dick. That’s because only jerks, or the non-digitally adept, end their text messages with periods.
A new study from researchers at Binghamton University confirms our long-held suspicion that ending text messages with periods can make your messages come off kind of mean. When people use periods in texts, the study found, they’re perceived as being less sincere, officially making periods the “k” of punctuation.
“Texting is lacking many of the social cues used in actual face-to-face conversations,” associate professor Celia Klin said in a statement, according to the Washington Post. “When speaking, people easily convey social and emotional information with eye gaze, facial expressions, tone of voice, pauses, and so on,” Klin said in a statement. “People obviously can’t use these mechanisms when they are texting. Thus, it makes sense that texters rely on what they have available to them — emoticons, deliberate misspellings that mimic speech sounds and, according to our data, punctuation.”
To avoid confusion, just stick to communicating entirely in emoji. A small digital image or icon used to express an idea, emotion, etc., in electronic communication: emoji – liven up your text messages with tiny smiley faces
Comments:
Another study proves that idiots are 97 percent more likely to mistake satire for real news and information, while 3 percent think the word “study” makes a loose theory a hard fact.
Got it? Good. I may be a jerk, but at least I am a jerk who knows how to write. If people would just learn to express themselves correctly, there would be more clarity of emotion, and everything else. Technology should advance us, but we seem to be becoming, as a society, more stupid, and lazier each day.
So people are now so dumb that correct English punctuation is taken to be ‘kind of mean’ and ‘less sincere’?
Wait, doesn’t the study actually show that ending texts with periods just makes you look like a jerk? Perception is not reality; doing something that makes people assume you’re a jerk isn’t the same thing as being a jerk.
If people who can’t write think I am a jerk, then by their standards, I am proud to be a jerk.
Perhaps it is more about people who can’t read very well, essentially a high-level literacy problem. On the other hand, there are just people who are bad writers, irrespective of punctuation.
That said, emoticons can be handy at times.
