Egalitarian liberals, in all their wisdom, believe we can legislate our way out of poverty. Instead of allowing individuals to succeed or fail on their own merits, they wish to ensure every wage is raised to a MUCH higher level. $15, $20, even $25 per hour.

But what even The New York Times understood back in 1987, the correct minimum wage is $0. There is no need to have government interfere with private businesses and their negotiations with low-skilled employees. For many, these are entry-level jobs, where they learn skills and develop the ability to work with a team. This education helps them move onto management positions and higher paying jobs elsewhere.
Meanwhile, with unemployment rates among black teenagers higher than 50%, minimum wage laws are ensuring that entire generations of poor minorities are kept out of the job force. This is by design, as Democrats want them to be kept in a dependent mode. After all, if you’re dependent on welfare, you’re more likely to vote for bigger government.
