KOMMONSENTSJANE – STRIKE WHILE THE IRON IS HOT

Wouldn’t it be nice if Netanyahu would tell his Jewish friends to vote Republican since all of the Muslim Socialist Democrats treated Netanyahu so badly by not attending his speech in front of Congress and Nancy Pelosi and the rest who did attend treated Netanyahu so badly by constantly shaking their heads “NO” during his speech.  And Obama would not meet with Netanyahu to let him have some input into the negotiations with Iran.

The Republicans treat Israel with respect which is not happening with these Muslims and Socialists in the Democratic Party.  So now Obama is going to play nice because he knows what he is facing at election time.  If I were a Jew I would treat that party just like they treated Netanyahu.  Give them a dose of their own medicine.

Obama Does About-Face on Netanyahu to Limit Damage to  the Muslim Socialist Democrats.

President Barack Obama is making overtures to repair his long-strained relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but the efforts have more to do with currying favor with pro-Israel members of Congress and American Jews than with the Jewish State, according to The New York Times.

“The White House is engaged in an aggressive effort to assuage the concerns of American Jewish groups and pro-Israel members of Congress over the nuclear agreement with Iran, and to limit the potential political fallout for Democrats of what has become a bitter rift in the American and Israeli relationship,” according to the Times.

The Obama administration “is nothing if not pragmatic, and the issue on the table now is creating conditions for a reasonable outcome should the Iran agreement be reached,” former U.S. Ambassador to Israel and Egypt and Princeton professor Daniel C. Kurtzer told the newspaper.

“There was a moment in the midst of this where you wonder if anger was replacing policy, but they came to their senses and said, ‘O.K., anger is not a policy, now we’ve made our point, it’s time to move on,'” he said.

The already tense leaders’ relationship further unraveled following Netanyahu’s address to Congress on March 3 voicing strong opposition to the Obama administration’s proposed deal with Iran.

Just last month, The Wall Street Journal reported Obama succinctly stated that he did not expect a peace accord between the Israelis and the Palestinians to take place on his watch.

“What we can’t do is pretend that there’s a possibility for something that’s not there,” Obama said at a news conference. “And we can’t continue to premise our public diplomacy based on something that everybody knows is not going to happen at least in the next several years.”

But since then, the White House has stepped up its efforts to extend itself to Israel by doing things like sending Vice President Joe Biden to speak at an Israeli Independence Day celebration in Washington on Thursday, marking Israel’s 67 years of independence.

Israel’s Ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer, a Netanyahu insider who the White House blamed for “orchestrating” the prime minister’s address to Congress, took to Twitter to laud the move.

After his relationship with Netanyahu went from “simmering tensions” to “open hostility,” Obama in the past weeks has publicly put aside his animus and spoken of his “strong devotion to Israel” while logging hours of meetings with Jewish leaders, the Times reports.

Though Obama used the meetings to impart “his deep commitment to Israel,” he said that he has no current plans to meet with Netanyahu in person, according to the Times.

“He told the group that a face-to-face meeting at the White House would probably end with Mr. Netanyahu publicly venting his complaints about the president’s policies, particularly his efforts to forge a nuclear agreement with Iran,” the Times reported.

Obama reportedly said he would wait to meet with the prime minister until after June 30, the deadline for a deal with Iran.

The president’s about-face can be attributed to concerns by some senior members of the administration that the “public feuding … had become excessive and unseemly, threatening to undermine efforts to build support for a potential Iran deal and to erode Democrats’ political advantage with Jewish voters,” according to the newspaper.

Why didn’t Obama go to the Israel Independence Day celebration – cause he didn’t have the CHUTZPAH  (HUTSPA’) and he would have to take off his ring of fire; but, he did send his side-kick, Joe Biden.  In fact, old Joe told the celebration, “WE’RE LIKE FAMILY.  WE HAVE A LOT TO SAY TO ONE ANOTHER.  SOMETIMES WE DRIVE EACH OTHER CRAZY, BUT WE LOVE EACH OTHER – AND WE PROTECT EACH OTHER.”  Old Joe’s talking was like the Mafia Godfather talking!

Downplaying rift, Biden defends Obama’s support for Israel

By  JOSH LEDERMAN
WASHINGTON (AP) — Downplaying the U.S. rift with Israel, Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday staunchly defended President Barack Obama’s record of supporting the Jewish state, working to allay the concerns of many American Jews who have lined up against the budding nuclear deal with Iran.

In a speech marking Israel’s independence day, Biden also reaffirmed U.S. support for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict, drawing an implicit distinction with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whose comments disavowing Palestinian statehood ahead of Israel’s recent elections have fueled the deterioration of U.S.-Israeli ties.

Biden, at a gala organized by Israel’s embassy to mark the holiday, said it was no secret that the Obama administration has had differences with Netanyahu’s government.

“It’s only natural for two democracies like ours,” Biden said. “We’re like family. We have a lot to say to one another. Sometimes we drive each other crazy, but we love each other — and we protect each other.”

The Obama administration has been working to repair ties with Israel and its supporters that have deteriorated to their worst level in recent memory amid strains over U.S. nuclear negotiations with Iran. Sending Biden to the celebration reflected a symbolic attempt by the White House to show the relationship is still intact.

Obama’s chief of staff, Denis McDonough, was also spotted at the ritzy gala at Washington’s Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium.

Netanyahu is fiercely opposed to the emerging deal, concerned that it offers broad concessions to Iran that would leave the Jewish state’s security in jeopardy. Long-suspected tensions between Obama and Netanyahu came out into the open earlier this year when Netanyahu, in a visit arranged without Obama’s knowledge, came to Washington to lobby U.S. lawmakers and Jewish leaders against the deal.

Ron Dermer, Israel’s ambassador to Washington and one of Netanyahu’s top advisers, acknowledged that the U.S. and Israel have sometimes had deep disagreements on critical matters. Yet he said the region’s immense security challenges would inevitable pull the two democracies together.

“We have weathered all those disagreements to grow closer and closer, decade after decade,” Dermer said.

Yet while the White House has signaled it’s still re-evaluating how to handle its relationship with Netanyahu, who is forming a new government after a victory in Israel’s recent elections, Obama and Biden have sought in recent days to blunt the political blowback at home. Last week, Obama spent most of an afternoon in a pair of meetings with prominent rabbis and leaders of major Jewish organizations, aiming to reassure them the deal won’t put Israel at risk.

“This isn’t a grand bargain between the United States and Iran,” Biden said, noting that other world powers are also parties to the deal. “It’s based on hard-hitting, hard-headed compromises and assessments.”
